I have always been a big ricky fan. did he have the complete package? no. he came up short against the very best in the world. but goddamit, it was a great career to watch and be a part of.
some people dont get it, but with ricky you became emotionally invested in the fights. his charisma brought you on board, and the excitement rarely left you disappointed. to the haters: boxing needs more people like ricky, who make you become so involved in one individual, no matter that he was not the greatest ever. I would take another ricky hatton over another more skilful fighter.
just imagine this: ricky hatton with the skills and success of pbf or pacman, he would have been a monster, completely stepping beyond the realms of boxing, as so few have done before (ali).
now i hope he retires and leaves me with great memories of a true warrior, with more heart and courage than he should have had on occasion.
i leave you with a great quote, i forget the wording exactly:
"well that was a lucky shot wasnt it?"
haha, what a winner, a true champ in defeat!
