Default Is being obese a hindrance to getting back in shape?

I mean if your already coughing and gasping for air from just a few minutes of jumping rope how can you get back into shape? Anyone have an idea how to start? or have been obese and gotten back into shape and even gained muscle from burning off the fat?

It just means that it will take you longer to get back into shape, not that you can't... anybody can but it won't happen overnight, if it has taken years to get your body the way it is now then it won't take a few weeks to get back into shape, not just physically either... it's a lifestyle that you can learn and unlearn... in my opinion being inshape/out of shape is the result of a state of mind that you can learn or unlearn.

You aren't going to be putting elite performances in at the gym right now but that doesn't mean you can't get back into shape.

Overhauling your diet and lifestyle outside of the gym will put you into a position where you can eventually start to exercise effectively.

I'd suggest either getting well read on the basics of nutrition, exercise and physiology or getting a professional to give you a nutritional/lifestyle assessment to get you going in the right direction.

The last thing you want to do is spend your energy on something ineffective that will just demoralise you and stop you from progressing.

Don't dive into this at all... you can't build a wall without putting foundations down and that is what you need in place before you can truely put energy and effort into exercising.

Start slow, that's all I say. Don't jump into deep water without first getting used to shallow water. Walking burns off a suprising amount of calories, so take a short walk once maybe twice a day. As you feel your fitness improving you can slowly build up the pace a little, and eventually break into a jog.

Equally important thing is to eat healthy. I hate the word 'diet'.. when people use the word diet, to me it implys they're only planning to eat healthily short term, which usually turns out bad.. IMO if you want to get into good shape you have to think long term, you have to want to change your lifestyle, and eat healthily for the rest of your life.

It's all about motivation bro. If you want it you can do it. But doesn't sound like you're quite ready yet.

All I can say is that you need to have a good look at your eating habbits, if you're eating too much food and bad food then no ammount of exercise is going to get you into shape.

For all the diets etc you see and hear about out there mate it simply comes down to one thing, energy balance... different eating habits, good hydration, different types of food will control your appetite/cravings, change your well being and body composition so all of that stuff is important but the main that goes towards burning off fat is always 'energy balance':

Energy (k Calories) eaten - more than - energy used = weight increases

Energy (k Calories) eaten - the same as - energy used = weight stays the same

Energy (k Calories) eaten - - less than - energy used = weight decreases

    Simple, eh?

So to lose weight you've either got to eat less, do more or, ideally do a combination of both as it's easier to do half and half than it is to do a ridiculous amount of dieting or exercising.

The human body is designed to move, but if obesity is holding you back from changing properly then you're going to have to ease into it with good eating habits in place.

It's good that you've identified mentally were you are and what priorities need to be in place, that's a step towards it, now get on to the next!

    Good luck to you. =)

every journey begins with one step. Even if that's one you're taking whilst coughing and wheezing. But your mind has to be in it otherwise you are just tinkering round the edges. For you it might be that a gradual approach works best, for others it's like flicking a switch and they fall straight in to eating clean and regular exercise. One thing Adam is right about, it becomes a habit you can learn. Remember you're in control of what you shovel in your mouth

These guys are right its in your head.

    Put it this harsh way,

If youcould squeeze all the yellow and white lumpy ffat out of your ass and eat it all over again would you?

If your answer was "no fukkin way" Then never ever go back into a Mc Donalds, Hungry jacks or eat ice cream ever again cause thats what they are serving up to you for your dollar, ($ which is your energy exchange unit).

You are being ripped off for your well earned energy with animal waste and flavourings.

See the clever catch 22 they have going?
