    Default Re: Protien Shake

    Pros:

    Convenient source of protein
    Easily digested
Often fortified with higher levels of BCAAs

    Cons:

Either they taste BAD or if not they are filled with artificial sweetners/bulking agents and refined sugars

It's the same protein that you would find in any complete (animal sourced protein), it might claim to have higher levels of different amino acids but in my opinion the net effect of 30grams of chicken is the same as 30 grams of protein shake

Mostly devoid of the fibre and vitamins/minerals/good fats you'd find in a balanced meal

That's my take on them, they're good as a supplement but a lot of people tend to take them and think that they don't have to worry about their diet because they've got everything they need in a powder filled tub.

I use them occasionally, if you're really hammering the training you're going to need a lot of protein... in an ideal world it would be easy to say you can get fresh organic meat/meals made for you 4-5 times a day... but who has the time or money? They're useful if you've really beasted it and aren't time wealthy enough to eat what you need.

You need about 1.5-2g per kg of body weight per day, depending on activity levels etc, but that comes from loads of different sources, nuts, soya, even grains and veg... they might not have complete proteins like fish, dairy and meat but combined together they do...

it's also worth noting that your body can't digest and metabolise more than 30-40g or protein in a go... I see these ridiculous ones that give 50-60 per serving...

You are literally shitting your money away... same as if you eat a roast chicken meal and then have a shake right afterwards... to much... you'll either shit it out or your body will learn to use it as energy and you'll store it as fat.
