Thumbs down Ortiz did not look all that great last night.

Not sure if you folks caught the ODLH Fight Night Club last night but I have to say it was a bit boring.

The undercard featured Victor Ortiz vs Hector Alatorre (never heard of him either)

I know that against a south paw you should try to land the over hand right which is a reasonable strat but Ortiz is still getting pegged by it even against tomato cans. Not sure if Ortiz was looking to get some rounds in or not since the fight went up to the 10th. before finally stopping Alatorre. Ortiz seemed a little off in some parts of this fight and he has a very bad tendency to lead in with shoulder or come in head first like a goat, which he was warned for doing so repeatedly. I like Ortiz but I just don't see him getting better, I see him getting worse.

Con could probably beat Ortiz with his eyes closed, all you have to do to Ortiz is just throw hard over hand rights or right hand right down the middle and you can't miss his dumb ass. And to think Ortiz was being called the next ODLH So much for that hype.

Interestingly enough, Ortiz is scheduled to fight another quitter as of late, Nate Campbell on May 15th. I wonder who will quit first?

I would hazard a guess its because Ortiz is not all that great. Not in the slightest. He'll fade away for sure IMO... Khan would wipe the floor with him, and that says shed loads... Nate Campbell is going to take him to hell and back, just like he did to Juan Diaz......

Ortiz is another Panchito Bojado....Everything is fine as long as his opponent co-operates...The second there is some resistance he starts looking bad...

IMO it comes from these kids being pushed too fast to the big stage...some fighters especially in there early 20's who are not mature enough mentally need more time then others.....

Ortiz showed where he was when he lost by KO and stated this might not be for him

Victor Ortiz, as he proved against Maidana, whether down to immaturity or not, that he lacks the mental toughness that I'm sure is needed against someone who doesn't lay down and die. Nate campbell, if he pulls the same game he did against Diaz, when in about round 7, shouted to Diaz at the bell "I can do this all night", the life will drain right out of Ortiz for sure, as it did from the baby bull and the mental toughness will once more fail.

To be fair, Alatorre was a very decorated amateur and a decent prospect at one stage & is much better than his record. He lost a load on the trot & became a journeyman, but he's a little better than that. He gave Carlos Hernandez a fair bit of trouble a year back & from what I read last week, he's never been down so it's not awful for Ortiz.

I still don't buy the 'Campbell quit' line, doctors have shown that he could easily have gone blind, I think that's enough to give him a pass, especially considering all the heart he's shown in the past & in his own life. I do agree though that it will be a great fight between the two & whilst Ortiz has the power to really hurt Nate, I think the determination of Campbell might be too much for him. He doesn't have the power of Maidana, but he's a much more savvy fighter & is more resilient imo. Which of course means a 'robbery' SD on the cards for Ortiz.

I think you're being too hard on Ortiz. It was clearly a case of him "trying things out" last night and him getting rounds in. He could have finished that fight in the 4th-5th round, but he was clearly experimenting. I am not going to say it was a great performance, but it was a good finish when he finally got it. All in all it was a televised sparring session. Probably shouldn't have been televised, but what can you do? Ortiz was always in control and had the ability to do whatever he wanted, when he wanted to.

Let me be clear, in no way do I think Ortiz is the second coming, but he is a solid fighter that can be competitive in a deep division. The Huerta/De Leon fight was great some really exciting exchanges in that fight.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I would agree but like Magicman said in the Maidana fight Ortiz said a whole lot that night without even opening his mouth...when he did he told us a whole lot more with one sentence

If ortiz continues his career he may end up being a low level gatekeeper. I think with Ortiz, if your still standing after 8-10 rounds, you've got him. I agree with a previous poster in here that he doesn't have the mental toughness and I'm not sure he ever will now but anything can happen

Nate Campbell is not a quitter.

Agreed, Campbell is quality.....Can not base a guy who has had a good career and has always showed he is the real deal in the past because of one incident...It is not like he just decided not to fight because of an ass whipping
