Default Hall of Fame: Tyson yes Stallone??

About time Tyson has been inducted. Stallone a bit more debatable, although I love Rocky and the Contender I couldn't help a smile when guy on radio said "it's like giving Tom Hanks a Medal of Honour!" I bet a few would also complain about Tyson tho....,

I see what you're saying. He has never boxed a round in his life and never been involved with the actual sport. However he went into the HOF in the Observer category, and the Rocky films did do a lot for the sport. I'm sure they inspired alot of people to try boxing, and the Rocky theme song and boxing go hand in hand. So i would have to say in the Observer category he is deserving. If they didn't have categories for the HOF then i would have to say no.

i know some people have gripes about tyson but when he was the man tearing through the division he was amazing. Not seen anything like it since and will be a while until we do. He is one of the biggest wastes of talents in boxing if not the biggest though and i get so frustrated when i think about. What made it so special for me was he was so young!!

How many people have got interested in boxing thanks to stallones rocky films? i reckon nearly everybody i know has seen them and has a personal favourite (3 for me). Very inspirational when i was a kid! The Rocky films are a part of boxing im my opinion....does that warrant hall of fame entry? yeah i'll give it to him

I'd be ok with Stallone, if the Rocky movies were a documentary and it was something he didn't profit from quite so much. The fact that he kept milking it, made it seem like it was something he was doing for the money. Its kind of like asking if he should get buried at Arlington for doing the rambo movies?
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

So stallone is the only non-boxer to be in the HOF? no... It's full of journalists, presenters and commentators. You people are acting like sly was put in as a boxer or something. Or that rocky himself was put in.

Those films inspired people, boxers and fans a like and have only added to the culture of boxing and empaphy that the public have with fighters.

I agree with both being in - how can you question Tyson's entry with what he brought to the sport in the 80s ?

I think they lowered the bar a few years ago with HOF entries, loved Barry Mcguigan but wasn't sure he should have got in when he did

I haven't really looked closely at this, but isn't Stallone getting some sort of 'special' induction? I mean it's not like he could get in as a pro fighter, he doesn't have a record, not even as an amateur.

Now that is just simple knuckle head thinking! It's more like what the military did to Bob Hope and made him "honorary veteran".

Hall of fame means Rocky gets in no doubt he deserves it.

Of course Stallone deserves a place. Who else has done more to take boxing to the big screen than him? He's done as much to popularise the sport of boxing as most of the greatest boxers.

Rocky Balboa is probably along with Tyson and Ali the most recognisable (albiet fictional) boxer in the world.

Im really glad they put him in, the man is a legend

It's obvious why Tyson is in and congratulations Mike. Stallone is a movie star, an actor and yet he made a profit and inspired people to go to the gym. Did he try to impersonate a fighter? Was he bragging in someone's kitchen about being a champion? How about Bob Hope? Did he say he took Hamburger Hill? NO! Whatever rocks your world. No one gave Bob a congressional medal of honor. Stallone promoted the sport as a movie star, author and producer but he's one of the biggest fans and that is why he got the award. He could have starred and produced love stories and there wouldn't be a

Yet you fail to comment on the inductees - the point of the thread. I certainly agree with Tyson - awesome!! Having read the comments - also agree with Sly for what he's done for the sport. And for me it has to be Rocky2!

It should be an understood you, with my comment that I agree with the induction of Stallone "Rocky". However I did fail to address Tyson and there is also no doubt on my part he should be there. I think this was his first year of eligibility?

I hate agreeing with Bilbo, but he is right.

I love Tyson and I love the Rocky films.

Why wouldn't we want the sport to recognise those that bring it an audience?
