Default Thumb Injury - Shooting Pain

I am new to boxing (1 month) but need to fix this problem. I'm having issues with my left thumb. I'm using 180" Mexican boxing wraps made by Amber Sports. Everlast 16oz. gloves. When I land a hard left jab or hook, shooting pain stems from my thumb. I don't know if I'm holding my thumb in the wrong position when I punch, if my gloves are too big, or if I've wrapped my hand incorrectly. I would appreciate any comments or questions.

Notes: There has been no swelling for visible bruising. The pain lasts only a few seconds but it is very sharp and intense. If I angle my hand down 90 degrees at the wrist, there is some mild pain. I am also right handed so this problem only exists with my weaker hand.

I have a picture that I could not post with arrows that indicate exactly where the pain stems. Apparently you have to have 5 posts to insert a link or picture. I would be happy to email the picture if requested. Thanks ahead of time.

Someone should put this on the training section for the poster, we only talk about boxing here, they actually do it.

You sure you don't have a stress fracture? If you take the opposite hands and put pressure on the thumb... sides ways.. up and down... do you feel the pain? or is it just impact related? If its impact its more likely related to a joint. If its a twisting/rotation torsion thing, you might want to get it looked at.

If you're talking about straight punches....and If you're tucking your thumb correctly under your hand and you're turning your wrist over and connecting with the the middle and the index knuckles (which should be in line with your forearm, elbow and shoulder), you shouldn't have a problem.

    Hard to tell without pictures.
