Manny Pacquiao faces yet another unseemly scandal as his foundation comes under scrutiny - Yahoo! Sports

Not really the kind of things that need to be happening on top of everything else while he's focusing for a big match against Bradley.

I agree it's definitely not the kind of thing he needs going on in his life.

That being said, based on the headline I expected to see something pretty scandalous. After reading the article I feel the "unseemly scandal" reflects more on the Filipino government than on Manny. The details seem to be that Manny's foundation brought in shipping containers of used clothes to help clothe people. The government impounded them because the clothes aren't considered "relief goods" and they wanted excise duties. Somebody in the foundation didn't pay shipping because the clothes weren't delivered. Right or wrong, I'd be totally astonished if Manny knew anything about it and nothing about this issue sounds scandalous.

The author of the article then goes on to talk about all the other controversies Pacquiao has been in, even pointing out the car accident his dad got into. I would rather have read an article that took a different slant: the controversy over whether used clothing should be considered "relief goods" and how there are literally tons of used clothes sitting useless in shipping containers. Used clothes seem like relief goods to me; maybe the government doesn't know what it's like not to be able to afford clothes?

Perhaps a better title for the article would have been "Here's what's old and new in Pacquiao and his family's life". News for boxing fans to be sure. :-)

That is not a scandal that is just a minor incident.
