Thread: Gore Vidal has died

He's one of those people in history that you must have an opinion of. I would expect @Gandalf to have a great deal to say about him, whether its good or bad I am not yet certain.

....I personally found the man to be one of the more repulsive, self important, obscene, & heartless bastards that I've ever heard speak.

He thought FDR knew the Attack on Pearl Harbor was going to happen and did nothing. He thought 9/11 was not an "inside job" but more like Pearl Harbor just something a sitting President allowed to happen. However it was not his politics that I find most vile it is his view of the Roman Polanski sexual abuse case about which he said "I really don’t give a fuck. Look, am I going to sit and weep every time a young hooker feels as though she’s been taken advantage of?"

Anyone who referred to Ronald Reagen as "A triump of the embalmers art", cant be all bad.

Principles that didn't cover the area of Roman Polanski's obsession with underage women, I think the statement he made was horrific a true "Blame the victim" moment.

He could write but that doesn't make him a good person, there are plenty of writers who were assholes, Hemmingway for one, Steinbeck for another.

Very few people in this world are decent men. 80% of all people are cunts and I this have down to a mathematical fact. Just look at the viewpoints of half the US population. They are cunts who won't do a darn thing to help anybody else. People in general are repugnant and I loathe and despise them.

Vidal was better than most people and I have no issues with someone sleeping with someone underage. It is no different to drinking when you are 15 or deciding to smoke pot at 14. It is something one chooses to do. If you are a 14 year old than really doesn't know any better than you are an idiot and should be slept with 3 times just to emphasise the point.

Criminality is stealing from the wealth of a country and Vidal was against that. I have no issues with his views. Moral high grounders taking issue with innocent girls who put themselves in messed up situations. I have no sympathy.

Drinking underage & smoking pot are just as illegal.

Laws should be broken if and when the circumstance is right. Don't you smoke pot? Laws can be picked and chosen. America is a terrorist state, do they care about the Geneva conventions? Nobody batters a blind eye. It is nonsense to have a go at Vidal when there are far more evil people roaming your lands and some even use a veil of law to mask their villainy.
