    Default Classic Computer Games

What games for you have helped define great moments in gaming culture? Games that have moved the artform on or broke through into the general publics conciousness. A couple for starters

    ARCADE

    Space Invaders

The finely balanced gameplay meant even people who had never played a game before could grasp the concept and catch the bug whilst returning again and again as the difficulty level ramped up.

    Star Wars

The first game I remember people crowding round to watch. The cabinet design obviously encouraged the curious but the colour vector graphics meant the virtual simulation, though crude didn't disappoint fans of the franchise.

    ZX SPECTRUM

Yes I am missing out the BBC Micro, Vic 20 and even the ZX81 which I vaguely remember playing some basic stuff on but the squishy keyed 128k Spectrum had a plethora of great titles. Like today a lot of great games we're made here in the UK, but back then were often the work of one man and not a team.

School Days, Chuckie Egg,Manic Miner the list goes on

    Commodore Amiga

What a machine. As well as being the first computer I used in music production the excellent Paula graphics board represented a huge step forward for animation and FX utilised by TV. The games were great too

    Guina Sisters

A cheap cloned Mario Bros rip off but for me as compulsive as the Donkey Kong LCD game or the thundering turbo binocular thing.

    Shadow of the Beast

Sure the graphics and look hid a pretty shallow gameplay experience, but what a look. Stunning game to look at sure to make people go....ooooh

    Another World

French cult classic. Like SOTB another horizontal scroller but this time with perfectly realised gameplay and a look that is said to have influenced Fumito Ueda when designing ICO the PS2 classic which for me is not only the most perfectly realised game ever but also one of the greatest works of art in any genre, including cinema, literature and theatre.

    SNES

    Street fighter 2 turbo

Chun li, fireballs, teleporting yogis, Brazilian electric monsters and a Tyson inspired Boxer what more do you want? Spinning star kicks

    Mario Kart

Hopping and skidding, endless battles, great courses, great handling, but most importantly the best multiplayer game ever, possibly, well up there with Goldeneye on the N64, Timesplitters and PES on the PS2

Ps2 - Timesplitters. Great multi-player, cartoon like, time travel, monkeys and shooting. Classic.

Coming from pinball generation, the original Super Mario is as far as I went.
Couple years back, I saw people gathering at a sidewalk and curious, I went to see what it was all about. Some street hawkers were demonstrating a new Chinese gadget - it was a remake of an original Super Mario games! They were selling it for about $10US, and it brought back some good memories so I grabbed one, went home, made sure nobody was watching behind me and played it; and believe me I had a great time...
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.
