Thread: Floyd Mayweather vs. Erislandy Lara

How would this fight go? Lara is the naturally bigger man, has decent power, and is a southpaw, which Mayweather has struggled against in the past.

It's an intriguing fight for real boxing fans no doubt. Something about Lara and the way he throws his power shots make me think Floyd would just be to cute for him, but the southpaw factor definitely makes it interesting. It would seem that Lara is going to have most trouble with punchers. I honestly couldn't believe Angulo gave him the trouble that he did, but I also doubt Floyd could hurt him so it's a whole different thing.

Realistically it isn't going to happen right away of course, but there were talks of Lara-Trout not long ago. I think that would be a terrific matchup and if either won in style it would give way for a legit challenger to Floyd.

Trout and Lara are the most competitive, realistic fights for Mayweather right now. They're both taller boxers that fight on the move. Garcia, Khan, Broner have no chance at a win.

I was saying about trout in another thread with him being a tall busier southpaw he would be a different challenge for Mayweather and the same with Lara. I'd love Lara - Trout to happen and the winner to get a shot at floyd.

I hope Trout can win, I've got a it of time for him after he beat Cotto and I think he did enough to beat canelo as well.

I actually love this fight and wish it could somehow come off. Lara is a rollercoaster as I think Molina got jobbed in a "draw" and Lara screwed with Williams. Liked him with Angulo, saw a new chip on the shoulder to go with style and I think he would give Mayweather some spots of concern he has not faced with everyone sticking to standard script and trying to "apply pressure, cut down ring, and work his body" going in. Lara is slick in his own right, natural weight and in a Mayweather fashion isn't afraid to boil down a pace, play chess and stink it out to get a guy come in.
