    Default Hopkins

What is it with the Americans and Hopkins, if Bernado was a Brit he would be classed as a dirty
useless fighter, terrible to watch a cheat a actor etc.!!!!!!!!!
But you love the shit, good at what he does what now the referee gives him a hug and a kiss, after
    the fight, whats going on.!
Before anybody says he's entertaining, that fight last night was crap,! I've been more excited watching
    paint drying.
If there is a God out there please please, take him to a old peoples home and retire him, I don't
think I've wasted 36 minutes of my life, and been so bored thank God for tea.

All true.. I talked about this few weeks ago and its like people are timid to come forward and agree with this notion when it comes to bernard hopkins..

Because bernard has a certain reputation , many people feel as though they should never criticize him and keep em on a pedestal n shit. Im pretty sure abiut this.

Especially the younger fans. They dont like to speak their mind about bernard in fear of being ridiculed as somebody who doesnt know shit about boxing ..

It is what it is though. Hops is fuckin dirty and boring to the extreme. Some snot nosed noob claimed that bernard is a master infighter. No he's fuckin not. Master infighters dont need to resort to excessive clinching.

Hopkins is just working the geriatric angle. Is the same reason people cheer when they see clint eastwood still hit someone in the mouth in a movie. Its a "feel good, yes you can" human interest story. Hopkins picks his opponents wisely and exploits their short comings. Its technically part of what boxing and gamesmanship is and while I applaud the guys efforts in his conditioning (especially last night to outlast the younger guy) it doesn't mean its worthy of selling tickets and watching. The kissing, fouls, and clowning stuff only makes it worse. When your light years ahead of your competition, its showboating... when you're running on empty, its desperation/ stupidity.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

The "casual " American Boxing fans love blood and guts but Im sure that's how it is everywhere. The hardcore Boxing fans I know respect Hopkins' work ethic, longevity, and the fact that he was able to maximize his tools but that's where it ends..

WE dont mistake that for entertainment that's for dam sure. Many people who claim that Hopkins is so exciting are just fronting to look like a purist cuz there is no way that man is exciting.

Ive never liked brawling, i hate it.. Im all about tactical boxing matches yet Hopkins does nothing for me and there are good reasons for it..

A younger Hopkins was nothing like this though. At MW, yes, he was very exciting and it's actually safe to label him a real killer back then. He was once an offensive machine which seems ages ago lol..

He just needs to retire already if he's not going to fight the best.. Fight Andre Ward or retire..

Of course he's been " acting " like Ward's best friend just because he doesn't want to fight him but c'mon.. He makes it so obvious..

Was it after the Cloud fight where Bernard ran up to Ward who was at the commentating table and said something along the lines of ," I love you too much to fight you man, no amount of money will make me fight you " poo hoo.. haha Wow when I saw that, I just thought Bernard was such a sleazeball, fake character..

This scene right here reminds me of Hopkins .. Han meets agent Mclane in Die Hard 1.. Hops will do just about anything for his gain no matter how low and pathetic he looks.. Faking shoulder injuries, groveling for points against Roy, faking low blows, rabbit punches.. This is a guy with no boundries..

Could not agree with you more! Might be that I'm taking the bait here, but I have never liked Hopkins, last night was one of his worst performances.
Kissing his opponent on the back (a first for me, it could have happened before but I wasn't previliged to see it), strolling over to his opponents corner to disscuss the fight in the middle of a round (another first for me), doing everything possible to belittle a pretty much outclassed opponent (pure Hopkins) and turning a pro main event into something you would expect to see in a circus, performed by clowns.
It was a disgrace! I'm ashamed for the world to see how far pro boxing has fallen in the US.
Just because Hopkins is doing something exceptional in the ring--fighting and winning at a high level at 48--does not give him a pass to do as he pleases in the ring. Steve Smoger is on my shot list now, whatever Hopkins wanted to do seemed to be okeydokey with that good old boy Steve.
I thought the HBO crew were a bunch of pandering knuckleheads but the SHOWTIME crew made them look like amateurs.
Hopkins doesn't think of himself as just a boxer now, he is also an entertainer! I'm beginning to think he believes it's all about him instead of the boxing.
Hopkins is a thug in the ring, everything is about intimidation, pushing every rule to the limit and flat out cheating. Hopkins went to prison as a thug and came out the same way, luckily for society and Hopkins he found an outlet for his thuggery in boxing.
Hopkins doesn't want to be the best, he wants to win, there is a difference and I can't respect him or his attitude.

That's one of the worst fights I've seen all year and Smoger was pathetic and might want to consider retirement himself. An ugly, ugly fight. Murat got dirty but Hopkins was probably calling him a F#$%^ing Iraqi all night. The turning his back and walking over to Murats corner jawing at them was ridiculous. The old man became the oldest to retain his title. That is a positive and a notation in the record books.

When I watch boxing I expect boxing, watching Hopkins fight is not boxing in my eyes,
yes he's fit but his tactics suck, he old mans people headbutts, elbows, holding and hitting
this guy wrote the book on dirty fighting.
The referee last night was shocking, all Hopkins fouls were overlooked he was blind to
the fact, Hopkins plays referee's and they fall for it just a dirty shit.
Sorry chaps I say it as I see it, craps crap and that was crap last night, will he fight again
I'm afraid so, he's like piles they only get worse.

I never liked Bernards style. Especially after he was crying about Pascal being a dirty fighter. Is he that much in denial. I think fighting dirty and the other things Bernard does in the ring are disrespectful to boxing. Having said that, the only reason I watch him is to see him lose but in the process of that it is a bit amazing what he is doing. I think if you were to pole a number of American boxing fans you would get a similar response. it's a love hate type of thing. I was also scratching my head when the ref went out of his way to hug Bernie, that was fubar

Calzaghe was on boxnation talking to Bunce, he bumped into Hopkins in the states, Bernard said
why don't we fight again, Joe said yes 60/40 what did Hopkins have to say nothing that's what.!!!!
Over this side of the pond, Hopkins would be disqualified for his blatant fouls, remember we
invented the Queens bury rules, Bernard brakes them all.

Roy also offered hopkins 60-40 back in early 00's and he declined. Instead he waited till roy was washed up to face him..

    Throwback fighter my ass lol.

Just put him in with Stevenson and that would be the end of it.
