No, Jones Jr was not the best ever, nor was any where near being the best. Despite the adoration heaped on him by the HBO guysn and the current commonly held opinion that he was "great" there are anumber of reasons why he was not great, or even especially good. His technique was sloppy at best and terrible at worst; note how is chin is in the air, his hands by his hips when he throws combinations. Against strong opposition- fighters that came to win and are not readily intimidated, and will thro punches back at an opponent- his technical lapses would land RJJ in trouble. Also, Jones Jr has proved repeatedly, especially in his last 3-4 fights that he doesn't have the heart for a real fight; finding himself in the ring with a rival, un-afraid and a hard puncher, he would fold like a cheap tent. Last, the level of competition he faced was obscenely low and I don't see how a boxer can be considered a legend or an "all-time" great facing the likes of Tony Thornton, James Butler and linton Wood
about the hands down thing.
Many of the greatest boxers fought with there hands by there waist. Some people feel more comfortable fighting like that.
1) It increases mobility
2) when you put your hands by your ears you naturally hunch forward, stick out what? your head
Those are two of the reasons I hear why boxers do that. Of course I keep my hands up, I dont have the reflexes or the speed to leave them down. But dont knock RJJr for keeping his hands down. Knock him cuz he doesnt have heart.
