Default FIFA Plan for 48 team world cup

World Cup: Fifa's Gianni Infantino says he has support for expanded tournament - BBC Sport

Absolute fucking madness. 16 mini leagues of 3 ?? My interest in football has dwindled last few years, I know many people of my age group feel the same. The powers that be just care about one thing.

Money and appeasing those that will give them more of it. You are right that is all FIFA care about. Quatar and Russia confirms it. A country with absolutely Zero footballing heritage and a country in which state sponsored doping is the norm in sport. You could not make it up.

I guarantee you that Russia and Quater paid their way to get the world cup in their countries.

    48 teams is madness.

Still believe England will win it one day.

Probably when we are about 90 and the team is made up of droids.

Just wondering what age group you are in? I feel exactly the same, I can barely muster up the energy to watch the Villa when they are on telly these days and can't remember the last time I watched a live game on a Sunday afternoon and I haven't watched MOTD once this season.

I'm 31 and I know a fair few people who feel the same as me about football these days

44 - been losing interest for some time. Cancelled Sky Sports in 2016 too as not contributing to football's income in any small way - on the whole I hate the modern day pro.

I record MOTD and watch it and will watch it on fast forward on a Sunday morning if there's a particularly good game or goal worth seeing

Apparently it'll still be the same duration tournament wise and there are some good points i think.
More games for the fans, a chance to see players from countries that we'd never have seen before and with only 3 teams per group there will be more straight Knockout games on offer.
What they need to do though is bring back the Golden Goal rule to stop what happened in the Euros this year where both teams seem happy to settle it on penalties so take no risks in going forward during the latter stages of the second half and then again during extra time.

Anyway whatever happens England will probably struggle to go through even in a 3 team group that features countries like Nauru and the Democratic republic of Congo

Qualification would become even easier - more of a joke than it is now.

3 team groups were dropped after 82 because of tactical play in final group games. And a bad start would mean you're fucked !

And surely the chances of everyone being level at the end increases somewhat. - how would they split them then ?

Never a fan of golden goal (I can't stand Liverpool and remember the, winning the UEFA cup I think by an 'own' golden goal). I hate pens too - so basically no idea what the solution is

Penalties work and have no problem with it.

Germany won on the golden goal 1996 and I hate them but it does not lead to more attacking play.

Footballers are total pricks who get too much money. China have offered Tevez £650,000 per week!

Pulis got £2 million bonus payment early and left Palace - he now has to pay them back.

Fat Sam gets sacked and walks into another job with no repercussions.

    48 team world cup ?

FIFA is going to have to start creating new countries.

They say a “World Cup with 48 teams is popular with federations". Well, 0% tax would be popular with lots of voters but doesn't mean it's right.

However it's looks like it will happen, as they say there is overwhelming support for it.

    So they say

But it’s not surprising that FIFA wants to expand the number of teams in the finals: 90 percent of their revenue comes from the World Cup finals and the more teams, the more advertising and sponsorship revenue they can extract from the companies of the countries in the finals.

It’s the gigantism that infects modern football (Euro 2016, Fifa’s endless spin-off tournaments, a Champions league where you don’t have to be champions of your league to qualify)

I mean - From what I’ve read it works like this.

48 teams in the World Cup. 16 will seeded and a first phase of 32 countries.

The 16 seeded teams go through to the first phase (the group stage)

So your Brazil’s, Germany’s, Argentina’s, Spain’s, Holland's, Italy’s, France’s, Portugal’s, England will all be cool. They bring the most cash.

And you best believe who get's seeded will be as rigged as the Eurovision song contest.

But get this : FIFA proposes 32 sides flying in from around the globe to play a ONE MATCH before heading home again.

So it’s a bit like the champions league where the uncool kids have to fight out it out to party with the cool kids.

And even then it’s probably hurt the smaller nations because you could have some very decent teams who won’t be seeded like Uruguay, Chile, Columbia, Nigeria, Ghana who will be matched up against the likes of Fiji, or Qatar.

Obviously FIFA does not give a shit about the fact those countries would have to budget and plan for a potential stay of several weeks, bringing all their players to the host country for a pre-tournament training camp with all the attendant hype, before turning around and heading home after one game.

Bottom line is Bigger is rarely better - so many international tournaments are over long, with too many meaningless matches.

FIFA really just needs to be disbanded at this point and replaced by a non-profit organisation. It's become an international laughing stock. The name FIFA is now a byword for incompetence. It's impossible to trust anyone who has ever had any involvement in the organisation.

It won't be long before the top 7 teams in each group go through to the World Cup, with the best 5 eighth place finishes going through automatically.

Qualifying will end with San Marino playing Liechtenstein to see who doesn't make it through to the finals.

It's becoming a bloody joke, I tell thee

But all is not lost I hear Sam Allardyce is being lined up for an anti-corruption role in FIFA

Football. A political tool to control the masses. In some countries hundreds of thousands take to the streets to demand political change. In others millions gather in stadiums and in front of screens watching a ball being kicked about. That's my take on football. The football nations tend to be stamped on pretty easily.

Yet if we decided wars by having football matches instead Germany would be winners.
