Thread: Quigg now training under Roach at the Wild Card Gym

Good idea or not? Would Quigg do better with a Hunter or Jackson type coach? The sparring he'll get will be world class no doubt. 126 is a hot division.

Was gonna start this thread earlier, but all I could think of to say was that between them, a 2 line conversation would take up the whole training session! I know, I'm a cunt, sorry.

They got a lot of stick for the Frampton fight, then Crolla went down using the same pour it on down the stretch tactic. It's not a surprise he's gone for a fresh approach. Not sure if Roach is the right fit. Quigg needs an injection of life. Roach is slowing down in every regard.

Quigg is the type of fighter that Freddie seems to get the best out of. I hope LA doesn't get the better of him.

Good move. Quigg might leap ahead of Frampton career wise after this.

When most fighters that went through Roach get way better under his tutelage, that's a solid sign that the guy knows. Like him or not for his loud mouth, he delivers, and he knows. Excellent move.

Quigg has been sparring at that gym for years (all Joe Gallagher's mob do). I think it's an excellent match for him, he's Roach's type of fighter. Quigg's problem in the past has been trying to be too cute, over-thinking, sticking to Joe's game-plan and whatnot.

He's a vicious puncher - body and head - with an unstoppable engine. Few tweaks from Roach, have him revved-up from the off and even if he gets ironed out he'll be terrific to watch. Nice.

Have to agree here. Quigg for me has always had so much untapped potential. His dedication is without question and he has been a fighter long before lacing up the boxing gloves. You can't teach that, and on top of that natural instinct his technique is very solid. I still think he could have smashed ten bells out of Frampton with a better gameplan and less of the mental obstacles that let him build it up into a bigger job than it was. That is where Freddie will help him. Great move.

If Quigg would suit Roach, then Crolla would too. Both are at their best with high tempo and action fighters.

I am not a lover of JG as a trainer Quigg will improve under Roach's guidance.
I like Callum Smith but the week link I feel is JG .

British featherweight Scott Quigg is to team up with Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach after confirming an "amicable" split from Joe Gallagher.

Quigg, a former WBA super-bantamweight champion, will move to Los Angeles to train at Roach's famous Wild Card gym.

"I have moved up to featherweight with the goal of becoming a two-weight world champion. I need a fresh challenge to help me grow," said Quigg, 28.

"This is an opportunity that I couldn't pass up."

I believe this move and change will take me to another level

American Roach trained former world champions Mike Tyson, Miguel Cotto and Oscar de la Hoya, and spent almost four years working with Quigg's fellow Briton Amir Khan.

Quigg made the step up to featherweight after losing his WBA title in a unification bout against Carl Frampton in February 2016 - his sole loss in 35 career fights.

His featherweight debut ended with a ninth-round stoppage of Jose Cayetano in December.

Discussing his split with Lancashire-based Gallagher after six years, Quigg said. "We have been a great team and achieved a lot and had some great wins together.

"I'd like to thank Joe for everything he has done for me; he is a tremendous coach and friend, which we will remain.

"Our first fight together was for the British title and I went on to become world champion under his guidance and for that I will be forever grateful."

Quigg went 7 rounds of not getting hit against Frampton , JG was puzzled the media had Frampton in front at this point even though Scott had barely even thrown a punch.
JG is the problem , Quigg is better off without him.
