Somebody said on another thread that this was a tragic story. I remember Rosario in the '80's at the same time as prime JCC and Hector.
Does anyone know what happened to him?

He was a victim of his past lifestyle. A former serious drug user, he turned his life around, and was making a boxing comeback, when he died aged 34, of a suspected heart attack.Originally Posted by X
I remember him well too, but lost track of him after his loss to Julio Cesar Chavez in 1987. I remember watching his fights in 1986 with Camacho and Livingstone Bramble. He kept on fighting and mixed in some fine wins with disappointing losses:

There's a good biography of him here:

I didn't know anything about his drug problems, only his battles in the ring.
And another thing; Chavez/Rosario is the best one sided fight, you could wish to see, the beating Rosario took that night was unprecedented in the post 70 era IMO.
Yeah - I remember him really getting pounded by Chavez.
Thanks for the info - I, too, lost track of him after the Chavez fight. Shame what happened to him.

Britkid...i'll give u a bonus point if you can tell me what other famous boxer was in Rosario's corner that night?
Was it Jose Luis Ramirez?

Yeah Rosario was a tough hombre, and Britkid is right about the beating he took from Chavez that nite, if I remember correctly Chavez had him pinned against the ropes most of the fight and was just ripping him with head and body shots combos the entire fight. But what I most remember was his demolition of Livingstone PITBULL Bramble on HBO. At the time Bramble seemed unbeatable with his long arms protecting his boby and face at the same time, and Rosario just blew him away in 2rds.

One of the best contenders of his era, but couldn't keep his belts as a champ. "Chapo" overcame drug abuse and resumed his career late. he wouldn't have done much at his age anyway, but he died of sudden heart failure that was never said to be drug related. His KO of Loreto Garza was great!
Also if you remember JCC and Rosario both fought on the same card on 4-10-92 in Mexico trying to setp up a rematch, sadly Rosario was stopped by the unknown Hiranaka in just the 1st round.....
Hiranaka was not a bad fighter, I remembering seeing that fight, but never realised it was on the Chavez/Hernandez undercard, although perhaps with hindsight, that is me just being dim.Originally Posted by CutMeMicK
I also did not realise Chavez/RosarioII was on the table, at one time...
No it was actually Mike Tyson, i aint kidding yaOriginally Posted by Britkid
I believe you, as both Tyson and Rosario were managed by Cayton and Jacobs at the time.Originally Posted by rob7022000
Rosario/Camacho was a memorable fight also. At the time Camacho was the hottest young property in boxing (wierd, I know). Rosario took the fight to him and stung him badly - after that Camacho ran all night long and got a gift decision.
That fight turned Camacho from an exciting wunderkind into a boring ass defensive guy for the next decade.
