Is there a way past crooked promotors?

Hypothetically, say you're a fighter who has the goods. The speed, power, exciting style, mindset, maturity, dedication - total package. Can you maneuver without having someone like Don King or Bob arum hanging over you, controlling the direction of your career? Do you have enough time in between all the training to take care of these matters on your own? Say you have no formal education in business, but are an intelligent person in general - can you negotiate things like this and not be completely overmatched?

Yes you can, but it takes more money than what you typically earn. Unless you are Oscar. That's why he is getting fighters. I'm a former boxer, and I'll do you right. If you are that good, and don't sign, the "bosses" will influence your fights. Bank on it. Roy did good for a while, but got hacked on by the boxing public for not fighting certain people. Maybe he ducked some, but alot of the fights weren't going to happen because Roy wouldn't give in to the vultures.

If you want to pick and choose, you better be the best{like Floyd}, or be rich before you start fighting.

Fwock promoters. Arum probably does the best job, but HE is the one who pushed Floyd to 147 before the Hatton fight could happen, simply because he has another fighter at 140 who has a chance against Hatton.{Cotto}.

Given the ages of King, Arum, and Duva it would seem that their days on top are short- you can already see the scrambling for position for the power vaccuum that will ensue. When that occurs I think boxing will change a great deal and there will be a shift of power back to the regional and local promoters because they are the ones that have the regular fight cards on which the future superstars learn their craft. It has become habit to skip all that and go to the top right now. The problem is that you are left with a lot of prospects that never go further. Now we don't even have prospects

I am sure in no way did you mean to suggest Arum or King are crooked, merely alleged....
