Pat Burns out, Emmanuel Steward to train Jermaine Taylor for the Winky fight

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Middleweight champion Jermain Taylor is training without Patrick Burns, who was expected to be part of a two-person training team leading up to next month's fight against Winky Wright.

Taylor moved his training camp from Miami to Detroit, where new trainer Emanuel Steward is based. Taylor was expected to work with both Steward and Burns, but camp started Monday without Burns.

Ozell Nelson, Taylor's amateur coach, had said last month both trainers would work together. He now says Burns was left out because having two trainers could have been too distracting for Taylor.

"I wish Jermain well. I certainly want him to win this fight," Burns said from Miami. "I'm going to keep busy, but I will be rooting for Jermain."

Taylor, who is from Little Rock, is 25-0 heading into the June 17 fight with Wright in Memphis, Tenn. Burns has been Taylor's trainer throughout his pro career.

I've heard Steward say he didn't like being a co-trainer, working with Naz being an example, and I guess Taylor's people thought he needed a better corner to beat Winky

Stewart is gonna mess up Taylor's style. jab grab then eventually use his right hand won't work against Wright

I disagree... Stewart hasn't made everyone fight the same that he's coached. To say he'll make Taylor fight like Wladimir would be ignorant. If anything Stewart will teach him to throw from angles.

You dont try and mend something that,s not broken Some one whose 25 and 0 isnt broken Burns seems to have done a pretty good job. Why change.

Because Jermaine had difficulties with Hopkins, and he still has obvious flaws most notebly his bow and arrow 1,2 where he pulls back his right before throwing it.

Im not sure about Emanuel............he's like a loose cannon imo

Jermain's bow and arrow effect makes his jab effective, to change it he would have to stand upright and standing upright isn't the best for Jermain Taylor not for his style.

Yeah he's only one of the best trainers out there. I just think this is a HUGE fight for Jermain and a change at this point in time is a little strange but Manny will teach him a lot.

Taylor has great skill anyways his athletism is a huge advantage going into the fight and the way Manny will train him won't be too much different than how he fights right now. Jab and right hand as the bread and butter combo...I can see JT winning with or without Manny though.

One thigs for sure, changing/sacking trainers shows that something ain't right, if its not broke don't fix it, clearly its broke.

Kinda odd, how long till the fight? I don't know how much he'll be able to do but Steward could do some things with Taylor, I always thought Steward and Naz was an odd partnership cause of Naz' style but Taylor's is a bit more in line with Stewards type of training.
