WBA orders Hatton-Oktay Urkal

The WBA yesterday ordered WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton to defend against Oktay Urkal within 120 days. The 36-year-old Urkal is #1 in the WBA rankings and the mandatory challenger. Hatton won the title last Saturday in Boston by unanimous decision dethroning title defender Luis Collazo. In the WBA's congratulatory letter to Hatton, VP Gilberto Jesus Mendoza listed September 10 as the deadline for Hatton-Urkal to take place and urged the Hatton camp "to begin negotiations in order to comply with your commitment."

I really hope this doesn't happen. Urkal did well versus Tsyzu but that was a while ago it seems like he's a bit past it now. Should be a Collazo rematch or a bigger fight than this.

WTF!!! Vivian Harris knocked this guy out in both of his defenses at 140. How come Urkal is always the number 1 contender for the WBA title but this time its at 147 ???

??? I don't know, I guess the WBA just really thinks highly of Urkal. He's not a bad figter, he used to be pretty good but its not a very intriguing matchup now.

No, he did not knock out Urkal in the first fight - it became a MD for Harris, that is why they had a second fight.

These spineless kick-back dependent boxing officials need to be heavily protested and booted out of their jobs.

I don't believe this!! What a waste of time and I feel for Collazo,you know Hatton wants that belt so he'll fight this guy and probably just ignore Collazo because that would be too many uneccessary fights from Hatton's camp's view.
Any chance he may just drop the belt? If he did,he would not have to fight this guy!!

Hatton needs to win this one with style to set up a fight with Gatti after this then a Mayweather bout if he can get through that.

I think hatton has the skills to beat gatti and mayweather. He might stay undefeated if he beats mayweather.

I think ricky is going to dump his belt maybe before or after the Urkal fight.

The winner of the Urkal fight is scheduled to fight the winner of Julio Quintana. I don't think he wants any part of those two.

He should dump this belt and fight Margarito!! but after going to soo much trouble to get it I think he would be inclined to fight and keep it.
