How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
I'm stealing a line from Oumafan (where has he been? I haven't seen him in days, way to long >:mad ;D) and asking one of these. What do you think Taylor has to do?
I heard Emmanuel Steward say that the way Taylor is going to win is by making Winky be the agressor and take him out of his element but I really don't get this because that would be putting his fighter out of his element. No matter how hard they train in the weeks leading up to this fight, Taylor will always be accustomed to fighting while pressing forward and if he does indeed apply this gameplan then he will have to figure out how to avoid the jab of Winky and het off shots of his own. I don't know I just think the whole plan doesn't make much sense. It's not like Winky is an all defensive fighter, he has a great jab and his straight left isn't something to be taken for granted. If he does do that then I expect a very ugly yet lopsided win for Winky. That would be bad imo.
I think that the one way to penetrate Winky's defense is to shoot through the middle. I think that a fighter with a good straight 1,2 would give Winky trouble. I remember after the first Hopkins fight the thing the Taylor camp vowed to do was straighten up Taylor's straight right. It was very loopy in the first fight and that cost him a lot of oppurtunities at clean shots because his set up was perfect but the loopiness of his punches had a lot of punches just glancing Hopkins instead of connecting flush. Then he came into the second fight and had the same problems. For Taylor's sake I REALLY hope they are straessing straighting up his right hand because if he can open Winky's defense with his hooks and even his jab to some degree, then shoot up the middle with the right hand, then I would give him a good chance to win. So basically, I think he just has to spread the defense of Winky with lead hooks and jabs and then shoot through the middle with the right. That only works if he doesn't have that loopy right hand it's straight. As of now though, I don't see him doing much more then landing on anything other then Winky's gloves and arms.
Your thoughts?

My thoughts? I think Taylor silences his critics by destroying Winky Wright.

How though? Do you think he just overwhelms him or do you think Winky is overrated? Why do you think that? Have to say I disagree. I can envision a somewhat close to decision due to lack of offense or spectacular blows on Winky's part but the only way I see a blowout is if it is in Winky's favor. I DEFINITELY don't see a KO happening.
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
I don't see it a blowout in either guy's favor ... either could win IMO... Taylor wasn't blown out by Hopkins who very hard to fight against, and I don't think he will be blown out by Winky.

Taylor would not attack a 40 year Hopkins. He won't attack Wright. Wright will force the fight. In turn making Taylor's very good jab the controlling factor in the fight. Wright will also see that the punches from the naturally bigger Taylor will hurt more than the ones that came from the smaller Mosley and Trinidad. Everybody thinks its a bad fight for Taylor. I think it's a bad fight for Wright. I have the same gut feeling for this that I had for Hatton-Collazo. Not my fault they took it from Collazo.

He did attack Hopkins, it just took him a little while (His first big fight I think he was a little jirttery) but it happened eventually, especially in the second fight. He pressed the action (though there was hardly any "action" that fight.)
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
Taylor is a notch above anyone Winky has ever fought. I think Jermaine will just be alittle too much for him.
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
straights to the body
BHop tried every trick in the book so to Taylor being a lefty is about the only new one Winky has up his sleeve.

I wouldnt go so far as to say Taylor is a better boxer than Mosely but the fact is Taylor is a natural Middleweight and Mosely is a natural Welterweight. Most people agree that Taylor was thrown in with Hopkins a little too soon so who's to say he has improved further.
Winky is in for a rude awakening. ;)
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
Personally...I don't think that Taylor beat Hopkins.
I always gave Winky the best chance of beating Hopkins.
The only thing that Taylor can hope for in beating Wright IWO is to catch him with a power shot that actually lands flush...something that he was never able to do with Hopkins.
Either that...or the "close to hometown knod".
Wright has to much experience for Taylor & he's got one hell of a chin.
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
i think that winky can beat taylor....it took taylor everything he had to get past a wily 40 years old hopkins, winky is a different kettle of fish entirely....
a different style, very difficult to land clean on and has bags of experience.....will be a close fight but i think winky can edge it....
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
pressure pressure and volumes of punches
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
he already has hes going to get in the ring with him its already a victory
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
how does taylor beat Wright? he doesnt... Wrights forearms are so long that when he puts his hands up he covers his face and the long forearms protect virtually all of the space below... You need to get through winky's guard to beat him... Sorry Jermain this is Winky's time.

HUH? you put Taylor above Trinidad and Mosley? Are you serious?
Re: How Does Taylor Beat Winky?
How could taylor not be better than trinidad and mosely? Trinidad was TKOed by hopkins. Trinidad was once a great fighter, but thats no more. Winky beat a pathetic trindad that stuck his face out asking to be hit, and he also had no kind of offense. All winky did was jab the whole fight (and taylors jab is quicker with double the power). Mosely is a very good and quick boxer but hes a very small man. He has no power against a middle weight. Ive been to Jermains fights and ive seen both winky and mosely at them and they walked up the stairs beside me. They are both very small. Im only 6 foot. Im from arkansas and ive seen Jermain many times. He's bigger, stronger, and more athletic than anyone winky has ever faced. To compare a good but to little mosely and a once great but now washed up trinidad to Bernard Hopkins is ridiculous. Hopkins may be 40 years old but hes still got it. Hopkins is much more difficult to hit. He moves his feet and ducks and sways, while winky doesnt. Winky does have a good cover up but hes by no means hard to hit. Look at the Winky Soliman fight. Personally i dont see how soliman made it to be pro, and he beat the mess out of winkys face. Yes, he may have been sick and it was a close fight but the facial swelling tells it all. One more point is that Winky has no killer instinct. Ive never once seen winky hurt someone and keep applying pressure. He has a lazy boxing style. Taylor does have this. Great fighters no when to apply pressure such as Oscar De La Hoya. Yes Oscar lost to hopkins too but hes also to small of a man for the middlewieght division. I would like to see Oscar and winky fight. Im not saying winky is a bad fighter but hes too small of a man for Taylor. I believe without a doubt Talylor will win by TKO or lopsided UD.
