Oscar was part of all 5 of the highest grossing Non HW fights in history!!!!
Box-office smash: De La Hoya's mashing of Mayorga drew 875,000 buys (475,000 from cable systems; 400,000 from satellite homes) and generated $43.8 million in pay-per-view revenue, HBO Sports reported.
That makes it the fifth highest grossing, non-heavyweight fight in history. De La Hoya was involved in all five. The four others:
1999 vs. Trinidad, 1.4 million buys
2004 vs. Bernard Hopkins, 1 million buys
2003 rematch vs. Shane Mosley, 950,000 buys
2002 vs. Fernando Vargas, 935,000 buys

All that money can't fix his little chicken legs :)

It's not as much of Oscar being a great fighter as it is him fighting in a more lucrative time. Face it, there is more money generating in boxing now than ever before. If Oscar and Sugar Ray switched places, Ray would be the subject of this topic. You see my point?

Back in the days there was more money if you adjust inflation

I never liked Oscar inside the ring but he was very good for boxing marketing. People that did not watch the sport on a regular basis seemed to flock to his fights. Some fans would not even know who he was fighting and they would still order the PPV. He had big time star power(and still does). No other non heavyweight put up those kind of PPV.

I never liked him much either, and i loved Chavez - but Oscar was great against Chavez.

I bet he knew how to use the Caps Lock button on the keyboard to... just messing with 'ya
Agree with that tho, i think his fight with B-Hop was a good example. Most people with a basic understanding of boxing knew he shouldn't be fighting at that w8, let alone a guy whos been the best at the w8 for l6 or more years.. but he give it a shot - although the millions he earnd made the loss alot easier to handle i bet
