Biggest Boxing Bust of all time
I would have to say David Reid is the biggest bust that I have seen in boxing. He won a gold medal in the olympics along with winning his first 14 fights and winning the Super Welterweight championship. He then faced Felix Trinidad in what was probably the biggest mistake of his life, after that he faded away from the boxing world. They once called him the American Dream. He did not pan out.
They put him in with Trinidad way to early in his career.
Re: Biggest Boxing Bust of all time
Hector Mancho Camancho Jr has to be an honorable mention.
Re: Biggest Boxing Bust of all time
Reid had too many eye problems, that's what kept him from seeing the punches to his face!

Of modern times, I would say; Duane Bobick, Gerry Cooney, Greg Page, Pinklon Thomas, Michael Grant, Michael Nunn, Don Curry, Michael Olijade, Mark Breland, Carlos Gonzales, Hector Camacho Snr, Shane Mosley, Howard Davis, Gato Gonzales and Alejandro Gonzales; come to mind.

I alway's said the headbutt from Forrest changed his career forever (Shane Mosley) but he should still make the hall of fame

Damn, a lot of fighters would love to make it as far as Mosley, Camacho Snr, Cooney, or Nunn. Asking somebody to be the Jesus of boxing is asking a lot. They've don't pretty well in a highly demanding sport.
Re: Biggest Boxing Bust of all time
lol nobody has mentioned Golata yet ;D
Re: Biggest Boxing Bust of all time
How about Hamed? A lot was expected of him and his career went to crap.
Ricky Hatton is on the verge of bust.
Re: Biggest Boxing Bust of all time
Because Hamed had a great enough career to the credentials and at least used his talent to accomplish more then many could hope to. Sure more was expected for him but at least he was on the path to it and stayed on it. Golata had a path layed out but he took the left turn at alberquerque ;D

Agreed. The puzzling thing is that Golota had mental problems, biting people in the ring, continously hitting people with low blows while his corner tries to warn him, troubles with the law outside the ring. Golota had the talent he just didn't have the brain.

Anyone who becomes a world class fighter is superb, but the fighters I listed were expected by some to be far more than what they became IMO.
