Spitting
Everybody spits when their sparring/in the ring/bag work and we all got the little spit buckets outside the ring but what is it exactly that causes you to have that saliva build up in your mouth and make you have to spit it out? Cuz I know its hard to swallow it back down cuz it is so thick, which has been passed around when your spit is really thick (like when you spit and it just keeps hanging from your lips with a long, never ending string of it :lickish: ;D) it means your dehydrated too, is that true?

Re: Spitting
On another note related to spitting if youre about half a pound over weight at a tournament its a good idea to get a whole bunch of gum in your mouth and spit out that half pound into a cup.
as far as the question i dont know i usually swallow my water im given. I only spit when i feel that i have too much in my mouth and i dont need that much in fear it will give me a cramp.

Re: Spitting
I think its because you're breathing deeper and brining up small amounts of Mucus from your lungs with every breath but more than compared to normal breathing... not sure to be honest... ;)

Re: Spitting
;)
the above sounds about right to be honest.
Mucus is there to protect shit from getting onto very fargile membranes and linings of your lungs.
Once the shit is trapped in the mucus your body either digests it or ejects it. The more you expand you lungs with work done the more your body will want to protect itself as the more delicate and lesser used areas of the lungs are used.
Obvioisly Asthma or any respiratory disorder will increase phlegme as will eating dairy products.

Re: Spitting
my understanding is that the reason it's so hard to swallow is because when your adrenaline gets going your throat contracts. it prepares you to fight of flight, both of which are anaerobic processes. so, you shouldn't need to breath to do them. i think i remember learning that in class.
