Hello and compliments on the forum
Hey all
Im new to the forum here and have to say after looking around the past 2 days, Ive found more helpful info on training and conditioning here than anywhere else (though I should be workin and not jackin around ;D). I am new to the sport and am goin to go meet the trainers at the local boxing club tomorrow evening, and cant wait to get some pointers on technique. My background comes from studying jeet kun do when I was a teenager, and of course learning to punch with the middle through pinky knuckles. Ive been working on correcting my bad habits at home on the heavy bag, and working on improving my hand speed through bag drills. I am also trying to switch from the southpaw I was used to in jeet kun do... I would rather become faster with the left jab and pivot with a right straight. Also had a question: I have heard that plyometrics are a great way to improve speed, but also weights on the wrists.... is it just a preference or are there advantages to each?
EDIT: Hello and compliments on the forum
Sorry forgot to mention- using rubber bands/tubing for strength while shadow boxing vs. using hand weights?
Re: Hello and compliments on the forum
Weights on your wrsit will build endurance in the muscles they add resistance to when punching, not speed... ;)
Personally I just think they make a weak link in the chain (you use your whole body to punch... ;)) and the quality of your training is lowered... its more beneficial just to wear gloves.
Plyomtetrics are good, just be careful when you do them. Have some one who knows what they are on about demonstrate them to you...
no matter how many words I type I can't subsistute actually showing you something ;)
