27.05.06 - Photo © Jane Warburton - WBA Welterweight Champion Ricky Hatton will sit ringside in Las Vegas next Saturday for the third bout between Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales, intending to challenge the victor of this epic trilogy. "Ricky has flown out to Vegas for the Corrales and Castillo fight," said Ray Hatton, manager and father of "The Hitman". "He'd like to fight the winner, although we have heard rumours that Castillo will jump right up to welter afterwards and possibly fight Miguel Cotto."
The Hatton camp is also reacting to the recent WBA ruling that Ricky must face his mandatory challenger Oktay Urkal if he is to keep that organization's welterweight crown. "We'd definitely have to consider fighting Oktay Urkal," said Ray. "He's well respected as no one has ever really done a proper job on him yet; I think it all depends what happens in the next three or four of weeks. But we don't want to leave who Ricky fights until the last minute again."
With Hatton not due back in action until October, there's still time before the Englishman must strike out on a definite course of action. "Don't forget that I don't make the decisions of who Ricky fights, that's between Ricky and [trainer] Billy Graham," cautioned Ray. "But for me personally, if we can't fight the winner of Castillo - Corrales, then an ideal way to go may be for Ricky to fight Urkal and then fight Gatti, if he beats Baldomir, at Madison Square Garden in February of next year. I think it would be a good scenario for the fight fans with the box office selling out in a few hours; it would be brilliant."
Adding to the array of choices already being considered, the Hattons are still hoping to get pound for pound king and fellow welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather into the ring. "I think the Mayweather fight is going to happen at some point," said Ray. "But Ricky and Billy are going to have to decide when the time is right or when the money is right, looking at it realistically. If someone comes up with obscene money to make it sooner rather than later, then it will be sooner."
Ok,so now I am disappointed. I thought he would not give a rematch to Collazo because he wanted the super fights,Urkal and Gatti-Baldomir are NOT the super fights!! I feel for Collazo now!
Re: Hatton lays out his plans:winner of Chico JLC fight or Urkal,Gatti-Baldozar.
I started a thread yesterday questioning whether hatton: PBF will ever take place....and to be honest my mood was bleak....its looking less likely....
hatton beat collazo IMO but he looked far from impressive....i doubt he will ever fight collazo again...
Re: Hatton lays out his plans:winner of Chico JLC fight or Urkal,Gatti-Baldozar.
Both Castillo and Corrales would beat Hatton
Re: Hatton lays out his plans:winner of Chico JLC fight or Urkal,Gatti-Baldozar.
He might aswell fight mayweather now. He'l probably lose but that leaves Castillo, Corrales, Baldomir, Gatti left for him to beat before retiring. If he builds up to a fight with floyd, loses and retires, his legacy would be ruined. So he should fight Mayweather now, win or lose he can go on to fight any of the above 4, win and retire with a decent legacy.
Re: Hatton lays out his plans:winner of Chico JLC fight or Urkal,Gatti-Baldozar.
He has offered the fight to PBF and says he would go to america to do it.
And Castillo and Corrales, we shall see if either of them could beat him, IMO I don't think so. Before Hatton beat Tszyu it would have been said that Tszyu would have easily beat either of these two, but Ricky beat Tszyu so perhaps this means he will beat Castillo and Corrales.
I think he will win, because I can't see either knocking him out, and his workrate and punches landed will be much higher so he will win more rounds if it goes to points, or he will knock them out
Re: Hatton lays out his plans:winner of Chico JLC fight or Urkal,Gatti-Baldozar.
personally i would like to see hatton fight castillo/corrales or pbf. All of these fights would be great and the only one id advise ricky not to take is the pbf fight, as IMO pbf would ko hatton round about the 6-9 rounds. Castillo hatton would be a real war and IMO would be very close. Hatton on points as i would go for but its close in my book. Hatton corrales would be a great fight to but i have hatton by ko in this one.
Re: Hatton lays out his plans:winner of Chico JLC fight or Urkal,Gatti-Baldozar.
I think at this point, it would be more prudent for Hatton to take on the winner of the Gatti-Baldomir fight. He needs to be really prepped before he takes on somebody of Castillo or Corrales or worse, Mayweather's caliber. A fight with Gatti would make the most sense. Gatti is a huge draw, a good fighter but also vulnerable. It should prove to be an interesting fight.

Both Castillo and COrrales are vunerable too. They have both lost fights in the pst, something that Ricky hasn't done

Id say ricky would beat him. For me gatti isnt going to test ricky as much as castillo. gatti is very very vunerable as you pointed out and although i think it would be a great fight i would like to see ricky fight castillo/corrales or PBF.

As long as hatton ad his camp have learnt from their screw up with the Collazo fight i would put my money on him winning both fights. V Collazo he looked liked he had no plan B. When Collazo was picking him off from range he was walking about looking totally lost only knowing one thing, keep going forward. Maybe now they will teach the boy to move his head allot more, and have some sort of defence, but of course keeping his natural attacking style...
I highly doubt Corrales would beat hatton. Like hatton he is best when he is fighting close range, both have aggressive styles. But with Corrales' big reach fighting close range against someone like hatton would favour hatton IMO. I also think there are big question marks on Corrales' chin. I strongly think if he got in the ring with hatton he would be sucked into a slug-fest very early on, and hattons body punches would take their tole, make Corrales start to neglect his defence of his chin paving the way for a 6-7 round KO in favour of hatton...
Castillo would be allot closer fight i would think. Him and hatton right now are again very similar fighters, both good punchers, both like to set a fast pace, have a great work rate' only thing i feel with Castillo that would go against him is he seems to be a slow starter. Likes to feel out his opponent for the first few rounds, where as hatton wouldn't let him do that. Id go for a hatton win in the 10 or 11th round. I think a step up in weight would see Castillo not being able to utilise is strength as much at light welter against a natural light welter. Personally think he has better boxing skills, but would get sucked into a slug fest with hatton again leading the way for hatton to stop him very late on, but a very close fight.
Re: Hatton lays out his plans:winner of Chico JLC fight or Urkal,Gatti-Baldozar.
Hatton would not beat Corrales in6 or 7,no way. His body atacks would hurt Diego but Chico has the power to KO anyone at 140 and down. I guarantee Diego would hurt Hatton, possibly drop him but eventually,Hatton would win. As for JLC,that would be one for the ages but I do not see it coming off,JLC will fight Cotto. Hypothetically,if Hatton did fight Castillo,I think it could go either way. Both are warriors and both cut easily.
Re: Hatton lays out his plans:winner of Chico JLC fight or Urkal,Gatti-Baldozar.
Regardless of his age, or him moving up, Castillo would'nt go out like Kostya IMO. This would be the fight I want to see. But, Castillo-Cotto I can live with too.
