Casamayor issues challenge

Joel Casamayor thinks he knows why Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo are fighting for a third time Saturday night at Las Vegas' Thomas & Mack Center.
Neither one wanted to face him again.
Casamayor, a former super-featherweight champion and a 1992 Olympic gold medalist for Cuba, is offering either one the chance, although he would prefer the winner, whom he figures will be Castillo. advertisement
"Too strong for Corrales, but it doesn't matter, because I'll fight anybody," Casamayor said Thursday at a Phoenix news conference to announce he will be featured on an ESPN2-televised card July 7 at Celebrity Theatre.
Casamayor, whose opponent for July 7 has yet to be approved by ESPN, is 1-1 against Corrales, winning a TKO in 2003 and losing a split decision eight months later.
He also lost a split decision to Castillo in 2004 as a lightweight (135 pounds). Casamayor (32-3-1) has only one other defeat, a narrow decision to Acelino Freitas in 2002.
"He is the only fighter today who can really argue he is still unbeaten," said promoter Luis De Cubas, who has offices for his DRL Promotions in Scottsdale and hopes to stage a series of cards in the Valley.
The July 7 card also is scheduled to include junior-welterweight Grover Wiley against Julio Garcia of Mexico. Wiley ended Julio Cesar Chavez's career in September at US Airways Center.
Wiley was at the news conference with Casamayor, retired great Roberto Duran and 2006 Hall of Fame inductee Michael Carbajal.
I feel for this guy,I wish someone gave him another chance!! I honestly believe Freitas,JLC,Chico don't want anymore of him,he could cause all of them problems.
Re: Casamayor issues challenge
Casamayor is undefeated. I always include him in my P4P list. It was fucked up that he gave Corrales a rematch when he didn't have to, but Corrales wouldn't do the same for him.
Re: Casamayor issues challenge
As much as I hate to admit as I am a big Chico fan,I'd have to agree! Casamayor was screwed. His style is slick, super smooth, precise and really cool to watch. Is it true PBF declined a fight against him when Joel was younger?

Mayweather took the Corrales fight instead. Which I don't fault him for. But recently Casamayor was in the running as an opponent for Floyd. But he took the Mitchell fight instead. I don't think Casamayor can beat Mayweather now. But at 130 I think he had a hell of a shot.
Re: Casamayor issues challenge
People, People, People, I am disapointed with you. I have seen many Casamayor fights and if anything he is damn lucky he doesn't have 4 losses instead of just 3. Thats right Nate Campell beat his ass. His losses to Freitas, Corrales and Castillo are all legit IMO. He got frustrated against Freitas and blatently head butt him and simply did not win enuff rounds. In the Corrales matchup, which was rightfully a rematch since it ended on a cut mouth of all things, he was outboxed despite dropping Chico. In the Castillo fight, it wasn't really close the way I saw it. Casamayor felt the strength and power and just ran all night. The guy is a good boxer(Casamayor) and did get screwed in his last fight against Kid Diamond. He should have won that fight, even though he looked kind of old in it. Anyway thats the way I see his career.

Against Freitas a knocked down that wasn't was credited to Freitas. Without that Freitas wouldn't of won. He backed up Corrales most of the night in there rematch and scored the only knocked down. He faded badly in the Castillo fight, but he had controlled most of the fight. And theres a reason why Campbell asked for the insane amount of $300,000 for a rematch with Casamayor. Cuz he knew it wouldn't happen with him asking for that much.

Thats because he did, by a LARGE margin. What you don't think he beat Spinks? You must be one of these guys who thinks SRL pulled of a miracle and Kicked Marvin Hagler's ass too huh? ;D ::** Is what I'm sayin is that Casamyor should by no means be undefeated. You explain to me how he beat Castillo the and won more rounds than Chico the second time? And Campell is a warrior, sometimes he comes in good, sometimes not so good, but I don't think he priced himself outta the fight with Casamayor outta fear. Look how Casamayor did against Kid Diamond, narrowly beating him on my card. Then look what Campell did, he destroyed him.

I never said he was undefeated... But he certainly has never been whipped by anyone, he'll give anyone out there a hell of a fight.. Which is a whole hell of a lot more then anyone can say for el Matador ::** ;D

Re: Casamayor issues challenge
and No I Don't think Mayorga beat SPinks, not with the point deductions he got which he completely deserved... Other then those minus points it could have gone either way(even though I still would have had Spinks edging it because he actually outboxed him and didn't just try hopelessly for one big shot after another.. I mean come on, Mayorga looked like the total amatuer he is in that fight, and yet you try and make it seem a victory for him... Spinks isn't even good, he has absolutely no power and if he did he probably would have KOed the bum.
Re: Casamayor issues challenge
I guess I'm crazy too b/c I felt Casamayor got robbed in his losses to both corrales and castillo, and I didn't see the freitas fight.

Stop bein a moron. Mayorga won that damn fight easily. Spinks ran, he didn't BOX, he RAN for his life. Also besides gettin point deductions Mayorga also got screwed out of a knock down in that damn fight. Spinks gets gift decisions. Lets face it. We all know there is no freakin way he deserved the first Judah fight either, but he got it. Mayorga ain't no bum either, he's a former undisputed World Champion.

Your wrong on your Casamayor statements, but I agree with Mayorga beating Spinks.
