Juan Manuel Lopez: Heard of Him?
I am a novice to this board, but I would like to say I have followed the comments for sometime and there are many knowledgeable fans who post. More importantly, you seem to have a passion for the sport. Thus, here we go: As my name implies, it should be no surprise that I love those Ricans such as Camacho Sr. (before Rosario), Gomez, the one and only Felix Trinidad, and now, Miguel Cotto. I was at the Garden on June 9, 2005 when Cotto fought Abdullaev. On the undercard, I saw a boxer named Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (122 pounds). This guy is a lefty and a better version of Cotto. His defense is better and he has one punch KO power. He looks like he can carry weight well and hes only 22. He is also promoted by Top Rank. Lopez will be fighting on the Cotto-Malignaggi undercard and I am curious if anyone has ever seen him/heard of him?
Re: Juan Manuel Lopez: Heard of Him?
that guy is pretty good. I have seen him on Solo Boxeo on Telefutura. He is a great prospect. And will be great someday
Re: Juan Manuel Lopez: Heard of Him?
yea i think he has a bright future...his left is real accurate and hits hard...
Re: Juan Manuel Lopez: Heard of Him?
Have a :coolclick: and welcome to the forum. Lopez looks to promising but he has yet to be tested. He hasnt had too many fights so time will tell
Re: Juan Manuel Lopez: Heard of Him?
I assume we're talking about the same Juan Manuel Lopez who'd on the undercard of tonight's Cotto fight?
He looks half-decent, though the opposition is not exactly world class, and until he gets tested, you can't say for sure, but I would certainly go so far as to say that he is a decent boxer. His guard isn't overly special, mendez is getting a few shots through, but nowhere near winning this fight.

Just watched him. Wasn't impressed in the slightest. I don't know if that was just a poor performance, but he was very wild and open. He seemed pretty dirty too, with incesant hitting on the break and rabbit punching.
It's obvious he's not the finished article, but I honestly didn't see much to justify the hype. He was open to right hooks all night.
