Throwing Out a Few Thoughts....
Hi all, havent made many posts lately, mainly been busy but I wanted to throw out a few opinions on a few things.
Firstly Cotto...
Im not a massive fan, but he came up against a good boxer the other night, very fast very slick. He got troubled but thats understandable. However, you put him in with someone like a Flloyd Mayweather, at this point in his career, although Flloyds not a massive hitter, he still has a certain amount of power, and when your constantly getting hit, and then having to look where the guy has ran off to, it becomes a beat down. Cotto needs to fight some more B-Level opponents at the moment, I know its hard because he will get a lot of stick, but if you look at his record, he still has a good 5 fringe fights before people should be calling for him, to go in with the main big boys. For me with Hatton moving up, he can rule rule the Welterweight division. Theres nothing there to majorly challenge him.
If he moves up, again I think he should, stay away from Castillo. Castillo has done a lot, been to the trenches, been in wars, but still has a lot to offer.
Yes I know he has let boxing as a whole and we will come to that later, but I doubt he will be away for to long.
I think Cotto needs to fight the fade aways, people who have had there names, but are no longer forces to be reckoned with. Say 2 of these fights then put him in with a big name.
Who its going to be is beyond me, but for me if he fights Hatton, he gets knocked out. If he fights Flloyd, he gets stopped via his corner or the state that he is in.
Margarito is to big, but no-one wants to fight him, so how better than to show that raw agression attitude than fight the man, everyone "supposedly fears". Margarito knocks him out....in my opinion.
I know you all can see a trend where I have him losing, to everyone I say, and this is simply because I feel he isnt as good as everyone makes him out to be, sure he is WBO championship level, and would beat the likes of Maussa, Quartey, Gatti???, and people like that, but a step up, he will struggle.
Now enough of me putting him down, and for the ones who are going to come bck and say "Your a Hatton Lover", maybe so, but from a boxing point of view, I also take Flloyd over Hatton, and I hate Flloyd, but my hate doesnt affect my thoughts that he is amazing.
YES Hatton will go non-stop for 12 round, but Flloyd, you simply cant catch, he is in out in out, thats how good he is. its ok saying Hatton will go constantly on to him and hound him, thats fair enough, but you have to realise, Flloyd his so good, he can get out of these postitions, thats why he is P4P #1.
Collazo was a bad night, I am not going into it, because its all been said, but Collazo was a lot better than people give him credit for and Hatton struggled against a good boxer, his work rate and raw agression won him the fight, but against an amazing boxer, its a whole different ball game.
For the sake of there careers, at this stage both should stay away from each other and Castillo, because if they do lose, it wont be the same as losing to Flloyd. Castillo is to dangerous.
On the other hand, if Corrales moved up, I feel Cotto and Hatton would both KO him, as we all know his chin is not the greatest, and there gonna catch him, because although good his defence is not 100%.
Others who they could fight....
Zab - for me Hatton KOs him for the simple fact he would get into Zabs head, and although Zab is a great boxer, he is impatient. If Cotto can stay away from Zab the early rounds I feel Cotto would take Zab to.
Gatti - They both destroy him
Baldomir - Cannot say, I wont jump to conclusions because I know nothing about him, but something tells me he is gonna be very very awkward.
Margarito - Dear oh Dear, what to say, Margarito for me beats Cotto, and Margarito and Hatton, toss of a coin, if Margarito has Hatton in the position Collazo did and in all honestly I felt he was out on his feet, its game over.
BUT.....
Hatton as the non-haters will know can box....so he has to stop going direct and use his plan B and plan C he has in the past. If he does this, he out-smarts and outboxes a sluggish Margarito
Just like to say, the Knock Down in the Collazo thing, was bad for Hatton, it gave him the belive he could knock him out, and therefor after he went for it. By the 5th round he couldnt, and he didnt change his game plan. That hurt Hatton.
Where next....
Ok Otkay Urkal......Step back for Ricky, he had no problem giving up the belt before and this fight is not shutting up his critics, because he is going to finish Urkal, but that tells us nothing, he needs to get another big name.
I hope for Cottos sake, he doesnt get Castillo, but if he does, and beats him, I will be the first to hold my hands up and say I was wrong, at the moment I see nothing major in him, and I want to see his chin tested, fighting Paulie is not going to get you that, but it did show he can work, and dig deep.
Enough about those two anyway, lets go onto Oscar.
He is still on his boat eh?
Fair play, I would be to if I had one Haha.
Seriously if he fights Flloyd I wouldnt like to pick a winner. If its done at 147, which it most likely would be, because Oscar cant do 140 and Flloyd would struggle at 154, if 147 I just cant pick.
My heart says Oscar, but they always say go with you head, yet my head also says a slight Oscar, after Mayorga, theres something that says he has that desire.
Onto Castillo, I havent a clue what went on, but what on earth were the sanctioning bodies doing, they didnt stick to the rules with Castillo, and Castillo, didnt show enough respect for the sport.
Corrales was right not to take the fight, and what is in store for both now is beyond me, but I have a feeling this will hurt Chico, more than Luis.
Finally, Bernard Hopkins, superb great win, and showed the world he is a true great.
And now, my predicitions, well where can we go Jermaine or Winky.
I really really feel Jermaine takes this and cements his place as number.........2# in the P4P lists, Haha, Ffloyd for me is still 1#.
I just feel he will get through to Winky and hurt him.
Its realy close to call.
And finally I am going to do my Pound 4 Pound list, because I cant belive how many times I see Manny Paquaio on the lists, I have nothing against the guy, and yes he beat to legends, but I cant put him too high up!
But hey thats just me!
1 - Flloyd Mayweather
2 - Joe Calzaghe
3 - Winky Wright
4 - Jermaine Taylor
5 - Ricky Hatton
6 - Marco Antonio Barrera
7 - Rafael Marquez
8 - Ivan Calderon
9 - Isreal Vasquez
10 - Oscar De La Hoya
Just sum it up really. 7-9 deserve to be there, yes they are in low weights, but they are super talented, and you only have to look at there records, to see what they are capable of.
I dont like Flloyd as a person but he deserves to be someone, and who ever says he ducks epopl, check box rec, because he has fought great fighters.
I am not a massive fan of Joe really but he is undefeated beaten the so called best of the division, (we are still to see if Lacy was over-reated or Joe was too good, I prefer to give Lacy his dues, because he is good) but you decide, I feel he deserves to be there.
Winky and Jermaine, well you know why they are there, Jermaine has the belts, Winky as we all know has the skills (as does Jermaine).
Ricky doesnt need any words, as he deserves to be there.
Marco alike, needs no explanation.
I feel Oscar does. You probably all know I am a massive fan, but P4P Oscar is still a great boxer, he dismantled Mayorga, Mayorga is no great fighter, but he is a dangerous, fighter, Oscar looked near perfection, and I know if he went in the ring again he wouls still have the world class talent he always has, and seeing as he may fight Flloyd, I feel he is active, and would beat anyone in the 154 division.
Well thanks for reading, and I hope you have some ideas opinions yourself, even if you want to call me a W*****R for my opinions, do so, lets have a good old chin wag...Haha
:D
Re: Throwing Out a Few Thoughts....
Welcome back to the board!
I think Cotto is under-rated if anything on this board. They say he has a weak chin but really it's just because the guy loves to brawl. Personally I think he is the one to beat at 140 right now and that includes Ricky Hatton.
Hatton is a natural 140 lb, Cotto is a monster for 140, if they meet at 147 I think Cotto would be too strong for Ricky in all honesty.
I think the Cotto Castillo matchup is set for the autumn. I'm hoping Cotto steps up and knocks Castillo out. I think he can win that one for sure.
I agree Coralles would be unlikely to fare too well against either Cotto or Hatton, but if he could restrain himself to staying on the outside and using his height and reach advantage he might have a chance. Great fights either way though.
Your p4p seems a bit off to me.
You don't rate the pacman as a top 10 fighter despite knockout wins over the two biggest featherweight legends of the past 10 years, yet Joe Calzaghe beats one fighter and goes straight to number 2!
Personally mine would be as follows;
1. Mayweather
2. Winky
3. Pacquiao
4. Hopkins
5. Berrara
6. Taylor
7. Hatton
8. Calzaghe
9 & 10 some guys from the lower weights, I'll admit under 130 I'm very sketchy.

If you think Cotto would be to much for Hatton why do you have Hatton #7 on the list and you do not have Cotto on there at all. You need two fighters to finish out your top 10 and that should be Castillo and Margarito. Castillo is an honorable mention
Re: Throwing Out a Few Thoughts....
Nice points. But as much as Collazo hurt Hatton and the fact I think that Zab hits harder and is a southpaw and a better boxer I don't think Hatton would stop him.
I know you're relying on Hatton crowding him and forcing Zab into a shell until he gives in. But Zabs boxing skills and footwork are much better then Collazo's. I also think he hits harder and has a better jab.
You're on point most of the way though CC
Re: Throwing Out a Few Thoughts....
just one thing i'd like to add.....to the topic poster its completley ur opinion and this is just mine and i kno alot of ppl will disagree about this with calzaghe....i def. dont see him as a # 2 and frankly i would only put him in the bottom end of my top 10....think about it.....he dominated a guy who was prolly in ppls top 20 p4p in lacy....he is immediatley put up to a high spot on everyones list....while winky beats shane mosely twice and did the same thing (if not worse) to trinidad that calzaghe did to lacy....i truly believe that if calzaghe where to face someone who wont just stand there and let him T off like lacy let him he will lose

Hatton deserves to be top 10 because of what he has acomplished, 3 world titles at 2 different weights. Cotto is just potential thus far.If he beats Castillo he will be top 10 for sure.
If I was just picking based on who I thought was best I'd have Joel Julio in the top 5!

Starr I know where your coming from, because I think Zab is way way underated. The only reason I think Hatton stops Zab is becaue Hatton would annoy the hell out of Zab be in his face constantly, just because thats how Hatton fights, and also the fact that Zab dissapears in rounds.
If Zab was conditioned, and didnt get frustrated and worked the whole 12, then I think Zab would cause Hatton all kinds of trouble.
But then again, which Zab shows up?
Re: Throwing Out a Few Thoughts....
:coolclick: good post B@rrer@.
Let me just say this & be done...one of two things happened in Cotto's fight...either the weight loss got to him...or he had waaaaaaaaaaay too much trouble with someone that I thought he should have sparked out in the first half of the fight.

I see where your coming from, with Pac, maybe I am a bit biased with him beating Barrera, however, Joe has two belts, is undefeated and has destroyed the next big thing.
Yes Pac has beaten Barrera and Erik, but has also lost to poorer opponents, and Erik....
Thats why Joe makes #2, and Pac would come in around #13
And belive me I am one of Joes biggest critics....

ORRRRR Maybe Malignaggi is just better then you gave him credit for ;)
Re: Throwing Out a Few Thoughts....
Mallignaggi is going to cause many problems, for many fighters, its a shame he has no power, because talent wise, he is better than many of the boxers mentioned here alone...

Malinaggi is crap. He is nowhere near as talented as any fighters in your little pathetic excuse for a P4P list. You don't even have Hopkins in your top ten?! ;D ::**
