Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
Most young fighters who rely on speed and spacing generally don't like being on the ropes, however most of them (the great ones in particular) know how to get out of those situations effectively. Notice that every round that Winky won was a round that he was able to back Jermaine up on the ropes get clean shots to the head. With the exception of his flurries, Jermaine was almost defenseless. Lennox Lewis was absolutely correct in that Jermaine didn't have proper balance and because of this, Winky was able to back him up almost at will.
Too bad that Hopkins didn't take this approach towards Taylor, or he would have won their two bouts easily.
Re: Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
He should have kept his hands up, but Winky could really capitalize on that. He Taylor is average, so is Winky.
Re: Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
did you all see the last three rounds. Taylor fought his way out of the ropes effectively

Re: Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
WOW... cant belive all this talk that was a great fight by 2 great fighters
Re: Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
I saw the last few rounds. Jermaine fought his way out of ropes in the later rounds due to Winky's fatigue. Notice that Winky would hit him a few times then pause to catch a breather and that's when Taylor would make his move.
Re: Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
you are right Saddo, fantastic fight. Winky proved he could take a punch, Taylor proved he has got stamina
very good fight by two great fighters.
Re: Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
taylor stayed in the ropes to rest...he knew winky couldn't hurt him...he was timing winky for a counter right...he actually made it easy for winky to go in the ropes...if he stayed in the middle winky just takes punches...again winky didn't win that fight...and no taylor is no average nor is winky...
Re: Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
true
winky could not hurt taylor he did however control a lot of the fight
this was a true technician vs. a power puncher.
Re: Taylor exposed: He is average against the ropes
Also an experienced seasoned winky vs taylor, a still young and basically inexperienced and unmanaged until the last 6 weeks. Give JT another year with ES and hed rip winky apart

Taylor did start to fight off the ropes the last few rounds but I don't think it was enough to beat Winky....But man, the way Taylor spoke after the fight he has won me over .....very well spoken and humble...nice kid....I look forward to his next fight...
