Well Hilmer Kenty was the Kronk's (Steward's) first alphabet champ, he lost to Sean O'Grady in April 1981, four years before Hearns lost to Hagler, and five months before Tommy lost to Ray Leonard, in their Welterweight unification fight in September 1981. ;)

Re: Emmanuel Steward's first title non-victory
I have heard HBO say that he was somthing like 14-1 in heavyweight title fights before, but I am not certain.
Re: Emmanuel Steward's first title non-victory
He was also Hearns trainer when he lost to Leonard.
Manny MAY be undefeated as a trainer in Heavyweight title fights?
Re: Emmanuel Steward's first title non-victory
Re: Emmanuel Steward's first title non-victory
most recent loss would be Brewster when Wladimer fought him
Re: Emmanuel Steward's first title non-victory
Very true....perhaps it's while his fighter has the belt in which case Rahman was his only loss. The Wlad-Brewster fight was for the vacant WBO title

I think his question is for a fighter that was already established and Steward trained for the first time for a title fight, there has been a lot of them, Aron Pryor, Delahoya, Holyfield, Lennox Lewis to just name a few. Kenty, Hearns, Milton McCrory, Duane Johnson, Oba Carr ? , these are all fighters that Steward guided to world championships from the beginning. If that is the question, I don't know the answer.
