Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
I know this might sound strange, and for the record I still have Winky rated ahead of Taylor p4p (#2 on my list) and I felt he won by the slightest of margins as well. But does anyone else get a sense that Winky's jab is 90% of his offense? In other words, if a fighter figured out how to deal with his jab, what could Winky do? He has in my opinion by far the best jab in boxing, but his jab is by far his best and most effective punch. He poses no real threat to hurt or KO anyone. Is he really as masterful a boxer as people think or is it just that he is one dimensional?
Re: Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
He is't one demensional...  I hear where you're coming from but no.  We saw during the Taylor fight he can switch styles...  Come forward behind that shield of his or box, stick and move...  If it aint broke dont fix it.  It is his most effective punch cuz no one can see it coming...  Its a laser.  Why change if it works.  He destroyed Tito with it...  If mosley couldnt get outa the way no one can.  Why would he deviate...  He knows he doesnt have power...  but good ?  cc, bro
Re: Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
Winky is as good a boxer as they come. He uses the jab well, which is what every great boxer should do, plus he has good bit of variety.
Re: Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
He is not flashy, he is not powerful. yet he is one of the best boxers in the world... Mkes very little mental errors and frustrates opponants with those long damn foreams... He is a master tactician who can box against any style and he is so calculated that he is a dangerous fight. My hat off to jermain for taking it... Not the route alot of fighters would have taken... Love Winky but sadly I must recind that the fight was a draw... There was no controversy... just a great fight that deserved to be a draw
Re: Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
He is the most one dimensional fighter i have ever noticed, but he is the best and most simpleton boxer i have ever seen. simple but effective.
Block and jab and hit with the left. walk forward, block and jab and hit with the left.
Re: Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
Jab 90% of his offence....it should be coz everything should come off the jab and realisticly the jab is the most important punch ;)
Re: Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
Technically Winky is as gifted as any fighter on the planet at the moment. The secret to winky, is he does look easy to solve, but i think you can tell, he is freakishly strong for his build, and deceptively hard to hit.
If Cutie was being described in a dictionary, it would have to have a picture of Ronald Wright next to it. ;)

Well if it is after some 50 or so fights and 34 years of age if someone hasnt figured it out yet chances are he should keep doing what he is doing

CC Sankey! :coolclick: And in reality no one can stop all the jabs. It's impossible
Re: Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
Nothing about Wright is one dimensional.
Great defense, great jab, good inside fighter, & he can also work the body.
Re: Dare Someone Call Winky One Dimensional?
Even though i find winky's style kind of lacklustre. I will concede that he can take a real good punch and he retaliates after being hit with damagin blows. Taylor landed some really heavy shots at times and win ky came right back with a flurry to answer those damaging shots.
