Heavy bag question
I have a heavy bag that I have been using for about 3 months or so. It has a really hard pocket of sand in the middle of it (it's like punching a rock.) I have been avoiding it, but after nailing it today, I decided it needs to go some how. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Heavy bag question
I hope your wearing bag gloves, or at least wraps. If you're not, that could be the problem right there.
Other than that, the only thing I've ever done to work out a hard spot is to simply hit it constantly, and eventually, the sand will settle towards the bottom of the bag.
I assume thered be some way to open it and move the sand around, but to be perfectly honest, I have no clue how youd go about doing that, or if it is even possible.

Re: Heavy bag question
You should beable to repack the bag if you want to go that route...
Take the bag down and sorta roll it around on the floor a bit...Kind of rough like to loosen up the bag... rehang it and see how it does from there..
Also, What kind of bag are you using??
This could be the problem period....

Re: Heavy bag question
I don't like the sand filled bags, they are rough on the knuckles and wrists , I prefer Bags stuffed with foam and other fiber materials, also the water bags are good . I also prefer the heaviest of bags. 150lbs plus ! more like sparring partner in weight and length also the bags not swinging over gods creation once hit.

Re: Heavy bag question
It's an Everlast Heavy Bag, 100 lb. sand filled heavy bag. I have taken it down and put it upside down on the floor to try resettle the sand. It didn't work.
You guys mention about about repacking it. How does that work.
Btw, I don't think that I can punch it out, it's really really really hard.

Re: Heavy bag question
Here is what you do....
Grab a hold of the bag.....Take it out back.....
Go grab your 12 guage......AND SHOOT IT!!!
Go online and order a new bag from Ringside.... Canvas bags are just fine if it is just you working with it....
I hate Everlast bags just for this reason we are talking about...Everlast bags are not the best bag out there to buy for consistant workouts....
Good Luck,
Coach..

Re: Heavy bag question
I have an everlast 100lb canvas bag and I like it myself. I have had it for about three months now, and it sure beats the ebay crap I had before it. As far a refilling a bag I recomend taking about 10lbs lighter then what the bag is rated for in sand and place it in a trashbag. Then force air out and place first bag into another and repeat 4 or 5 times. Then roll it into the bottom of the empty heavy bag. Next get some "egg crate" foam and line the inside of the bag this is to keep it smooth. Then fill with old t-shirts or rags until packed tight it will settle just keep packing it until you are happy.
