Miguel Cotto: at 147 he will struggle no more!
Miguel Cotto has had alot of close calls lately & INO it's due to fatigue & exhaustion of trying making the weight! I believe that at 147 his performance will excell & his size will be suitable at welterweight! Cotto will be bigger, stronger & better at welterweight becuz he won't have to struggle to make 140 cuz 147 will be alot easier & it won't take a toll on his body! At 147 he beats Hatton, Gatti and many others!

how much weight does cotto usually put on after the weigh in? and whats his walking around weight? IMO he'd do good at 147 vs hatton and gatti but im not to sure about Toni. id like to see him fight Castillo or Demetrius Hopkins or even Juan Diaz before going to 147. All would be good fights IMO.

What on earth are you talking about, "alot of close calls lately"?? He had one very close call, vs Torres, or rather 2 including Corley, but still, other then that he has looked very impressive in his other fights at 140, and I don't think making weight was a problem for Torres or any of his fights except his last.. As far as your question Im not sure, he has had a size advantage over everyone he has fought thus far, so I am definetly interested to see how he will do at welter... Personally, I think the notion that he will be way better at welter is a bit silly... He wouldn't have been fighting at 140 if he couldn't make the weight comfortably and it's never even been thought of as a problem for him until his last fight, now I do think it's time for him to move up no question. But was Oscar DLH a better welter weight than say a lightweight?? IMO, in terms of being the best, no... He was an absolute monster as a lightweight and how he was able to make the weight and replenish so much overnight amazes me, as it does with cotto. I wouldn't say he will be better moving up, I remember alot of people said that about Hatton too.

Cotto will have good power at 147, enough to bang with anybody at that weight. However, he will be in against some big and strong guys in the division; thus, Cotto may be a more disciplined fighter at 147. When he is boxing and thinking of defense, Cotto is very good. His last five fights have been exciting and impressive, but the Cotto before is the one I hope to see more of.

I would think that at 147 he would have more energy and less likely to take as many rounds off. I think he is going to be a force at welter, how much of a force will depend on how much of his power carries up with him. I like him because he makes every fight interesting with his style.

the weight loss is killing his career....there is no way to effictively replenish the weight/water loss surrounding the brain in that short of time....it will take its toll eventually...he needs to step up now.....

making weight for cotto is DEFINITELY a problem every time he has to make 140 he looks like night of the living DEAD very unhealthy which does definitly affect your power and endurance and energy he will definitly be better and healthier at 147 but i agree he will have to be more cautious as a boxer because the other guess in that division could bang

He has had weight problems for years, thats what I am talkin' about!

I just don't really buy it.. If they were really big problems, he wouldn't have been fighting at 140..Sure it may have been very difficult for him to make the limit lately, and that can be very draining on a fighter.. But at the same time he's doing it because he will then have a big size and power advantage, it works both ways.. My point is that if he would have been better off fighting at welter already, he wouldn't have stayed at 140 as long, his people know what will put him in the best position come fight night... I think it was only a major problem against Paulie, now it's obvious he's going to have to murder himself to make 140.

Yeah but another reason is because certain fights were available@140,like Paulie etc and that was preparation for fighting a slick boxer and also,I guess recently,it was beginning to have a more adverse effect on him,maybe affecting hispunch resistance?
Whatever the case,I expect him to be very powerful@147.Hius punch resistance should be higher,his stamina should increase and I sooooo hope he carries his power up well.If that is the case,this guy could clean up 147,and maybe after a year,set up a mega fight with PBF who by that time will be a mere (hopefully)shadow of himself after he was destroyed by Margarito.Hey,1 can dream!!!Or more likely,Cotto should take some warm ups,let his body acclimatise with the weight and thengo for Gatti,Baldomir etc.

Struggle to make 140? He weighed in at 138 in his last fight.
The kid is what, 5'7 ? Diego Corrales makes Lightweight and is 6ft.
Now, i'm no Cotto hater (i rate him in top 10 p4p) but i get fed-up reading about how he will be superhuman at 147.
The fact is, a chin don't travel. Your stuck with it.
Fair enough if your tired in round 11 and get sparked - But Cotto has got seriously rocked and dropped in under 5 rounds.
I'm worried that against bigger guys, with more power aka Margerito etc, he come could unstuck.

yeah...and I think the power will carry over with him as soon as he does....unlike Hatton.....nothing against hatton he was just missing the "it"....
