Pacman's sparring leaves much to be desired
THE jetlag and a late night out finally took its toll on Manny Pacquiao.
American trainer Freddie Roach admitted yesterday the Filipino ring icon, currently in the final phase of a two-month training for his coming non-title bout with Mexican Oscar Larrios, was sluggish in his first full work out here after coming back from Los Angeles, California, early Tuesday morning.
Although Pacquiao also did some afternoon sparring the other day at the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines gym, it was only yesterday that the long trip from the US completely affected the physical conditioning of the former International Boxing Federation super-bantamweight champion.
Worse, the 27-year old southpaw failed to hit the bed early last night after the movie premiere of his self-titled film finished way beyond its schedule.
All the effects of it showed in his four to five rounds sparring with Russian lightweight Rustam Nugaev.
“You can see him (Pacquiao) struggle a bit,” Roach told a small group of media men inside the oven-hot gym. “But in a couple of days, he’ll be fine.”
“By Friday (tomorrow) he’ll be a lot different. No more distractions, hopefully.”
Pacquiao himself appeared haggard and tired, showing little interest to the series of questions asked of him by a lady reporter from a giant tv network.
But he shrugged off the notions that lack of rest caused him to huff and puff a bit in his training attended by the Team Pacquiao entourage led by American manager Shelly Finkel.
“Natural lang naman `yun, heavy training pa kasi ngayon,” said the pride of General Santos City.
He has one complaint, though.
“Mainit nga lang.”
What was originally planned as a closed-door, two-hour training was made open to the public as the workout began past noon.
“We hit the road as early as 6 a.m. We didn’t rest and just stayed up before the workout,” said Roach, who bared that Pacquiao didn’t get home until 12 midnight shortly after personally watching the movie premiere about his life at the SM Megamall.
The American trainer said Pacquiao was supposed to leave earlier but the movie was shown a bit late.
“We got stuck there,” he said.
Roach said Team Pacquiao will make up for it by starting today’s workout at exactly 11:30 a.m. before a closed-door atmosphere.
“We’ll clear the gym tomorrow (today). And hope to make the training more efficient,” added Roach.
The American trainer said Pacquiao’s workout tapers off end of this week, with the remaining days prior to the July 2 fight at the Araneta Coliseum to be spend on the Filipinos’ strengthening and conditioning.

I do worry about the future of Pac man...okay, he will probably win this next bout...
but he has tooooo many distractions...its gonna catch him up sooner than later...

yea pac does have a lot fo distraction...he needs to learn to just say no to invitation...he feels that since his countrymen support him so much he has the obligation to attend every invitation he recieves...
but his always in great shape so really I don't have much concern...I sometimes even think post like this are just a low blow to pac...his the only fighter we hear about that always seem to have distraction in his life...for example other boxer attend party say even winky was in a rap video...pac isn't the only one with a lot of things to do...but bottom line his alway in great shape for a fight...he loves to fight ofcourse his going to be focus and in shape...

I love watching Manny fight and I want to see him beat Raheem somewhere down the line so I hope he takes care of himself and I still believe that he will have too mcuh in the tank for Larios. However,this could even the out the playing field with EM,!Here's hoping anyway!

a little early for a movie don't you think...I mean he's not the outright champ in his division yet........what gives?????

He creates them and doesn't ignore them... Sucsess has hurt Pacman bad... he's starting to forget the work involved... if he thinks he can run around fucking about like this he get a painfull shock unless he is the second coming of christ or superman or something...

it meant the heat of the phillipines was getting to him...kuz he just came back so yea it was hott and he hadn't adjusted to the heat yet agian...

he better get his stuff together cause he might be able to squeek by Larios training like that, but come November if he thinks he can beat Morales in this shape he's mistaken big time
