Funniest boxing tale in a while
Boxing champ fined for bouts of dishonesty
Jun 27 2006
Disability claimant's 100-plus fight career
South Wales Echo
A boxing champion claimed thousands of pounds in disability benefits while continuing to fight in more than 100 bouts.
Keith Jones, 37, fraudulently collected at least £8,365 in disability benefit as he battled his way to Welsh welterweight champion.
It was one of the southpaw bruiser's few triumphs in a career that saw him fight 107 times, win nine, draw seven and lose 91 times.
He appeared on the card of fights at prestigious venues including Wembley, Manchester's MEN arena and the Cardiff International Arena. Several were televised on BBC and Sky Sports.
Jones, of Cefn Hengoed, Caerphilly, denied fraudulently claiming disability living allowance but Blackwood magistrates yesterday found him guilty.

Saw this in a Welsh paper today, and it really tickled me. If you have a look at his record, he clearly is well deserving of his disability payments. He was clearly never going to be a top fighter, so i suppose he did need to find some other way to supplement his income.
:p

I don't know he might have a case......after all no-one would bat an eyelid if Holyfield was on some kind of disability benefit as he's clearly brain damaged and delusional.
Re: Funniest boxing tale in a while
It depends on what his disability is. If someone had a mental illness like bi-polar disorder, they could still work, even box, but for how long? You never know when something will cause you to hole up in your bedroom for 6 months.

Actually in the USA here, Holyfield has too many financial assets to be able to claim any benefits but I see your point. We all know he has lost it.
Re: Funniest boxing tale in a while
His actual disability contained in the extended article that was actually in the newspaper (this was off their site), he had crippling asthma problem. Apparently, he couldn't even make it up the stairs without coughing and choking, and having his pump with him.
That's why he had to have an escalator into the ring :p
