Margarito disses Mayweather
http://www.doghouseboxing.com/chee/chee_0707b06.htm
a recent article by Steve Kim of MaxBoxing.com, Margarito is quoted about his feelings towards Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather has reportedly turned down a 8 million dollars to face Margarito.
Margarito tells Kim: “As a person, Mayweather has all the respect I can give him, but as a fighter, he has none of my respect. I can't understand how Mayweather - who calls himself the best fighter in the world and says there's never been another fighter like him - does not step in the ring with me to face me. I do not believe he should be saying that he's the
best at welterweight in the world because he hasn't faced me.
Margarito added: "He needs to face me, and he needs to beat me, because this is the fight that everyone is asking for. This is not a fight that I'm the only one asking for. This is a fight that everyone in the boxing world is asking for."

This is true,I believe Antonio to be the best WW and I think he would beat the crap out of everyone else, except maybe Floyd who is an AWESOME awesome boxer. So,we, as fight fans should want to see the best fights, regardless of how formulaic or 1 sided we think it will be. Therefore, this fight makes sense...the P4P emperor against this tough, rugged, monstrously sized Mexican WW machine.

More excerpts from that interview:
After De La Hoya's comeback win over Ricardo Mayorga in May, Margarito would confront his nemesis at the post-fight press conference at the MGM Grand, and Mayweather would tell him that this was all about business (i.e.- I'm waiting for Oscar) and that they would make a deal when and if the time was right.
“Mayweather was just a bunch of lies," Margarito believes. "Just deceiving not only the public but the actual boxing people themselves. Mentioning that, 'I will fight Margarito if this fight between Oscar and I does not happen'. But it’s just like the Americans say, 'It's a bunch of bulls**t.’ It’s all talk, he doesn't want to fight me, he's afraid of fighting me.
For him to say that's it's not about being afraid, it's just a bunch of B.S."
Does Diaz believe they will ever face Mayweather?
“In my honest opinion," he says, "I don't think he will get in the ring with him. Floyd knows what Antonio can do to him. I think Floyd right now is trying to stay alive for a May 7th (2007) fight between him and Oscar. That's what he's going to do. He's going to hand-pick his opponents and he's going to look for the easiest one."(Cintron>?)
So is a bout against Quintana a suitable contingency in his mind?
“I’m glad they're talking about October 7 and now that I'm hearing it's a pay-per-view, that's great," says Margarito, whose record stands at 33-4 with 24 KO's. "When it comes to the opponents, I don't know anything about Quintana. I did see him fight, and it's not really an opponent that I'd like to fight, but I will face anyone.

Re: Margarito disses Mayweather

What about beating Castillo twice
Knocking Corrales down 5 times
Beating the daylights out of Hernandez
Your right they don't count for anything
Re: Margarito disses Mayweather
Beating Castillo once ?
You talk of Corrales like he is a giant killer.
Now tell me some risky fights since the days of 135 Brandon ?

Chavez, Castillo, Judah, Hernandez, Corrales, N'dou
I mean, he has one of the better resumes in all of boxing. Hatton has beat Tszyu and Massua.
Re: Margarito disses Mayweather
Like i said though folks...since 135?

Judah. Basically. But still, Hatton and Margarito haven't done much more. To say he's a poser afer only spending a short time at 147 is ludicrous don't you think? I mean he is 29 ffs. People give him flak for wanting to fight DLH (including me) and criticize him for not taking up Margarito on his offer but then call Hatton a hero. Who is Hatton facing next? Urkal? OKTAY URKAL? Yet he is a hero?

Great call!!! ;)
I don't know about Hatton though.
Re: Margarito disses Mayweather
For me PBF is at the stage where he needs to only fight the best fighters and then champions. He needs to look at what Pacman is doing and follow suit.

Hatton, huh. Didn't he just go back on his word to Collazo about giving him a rematch? Some hero.

That's what I keep saying. Everyone says that the other fighters are not getting criticized for their level of comp but the other guys are not considered p4p #1 and are not asking for ridiculous money for every fight. If he doesn't step up and fight a worthy opponent then he needs to relinquish the top spot.
