Sugar Ray was one of my very favorites! :D
Great Olympic story, & other than cocaine grabbing him for a while, a roll model type entity, IMO.
:) I even liked his 7up commercials with his son.

Leonard fought a smart fight vs. Hagler.
He knew where his strengths were, & forced the fight to be fought there.
He would open up one of those flurrys, steal the judges, then get back on his bike till he was recharged.
Not to be tempted to come inside again until he felt his tank was full.

That fight crushed Hagler's spirit so much that he left the country.
I liked Marvin, but he got worked in that fight.

what did sugar ray have a drug problem ?

For a little while it was reported that he was doing alot of coke, & his family life suffered.
It was after he was diagnosed with a detatched retina, & he allegedly was depressed & got into a bad habit.

At least thats what I read. ;)

funnily enough, when i wacthed the fight again....coming to the final round, i had SRL 1 point ahead and if Hagler won the last round i would of given it a draw..
I thought SRL just barely scraped the last round (very very close to judge)....and so i gave the scorecard 115-113 to Leonard..
Might change my mind another day

Hagler lost rounds 1 and 2 so its ok

One thing Ive never noticed before, I always waych fights with the sound off.Is the hard time the ref gave Lenoard the whole time. He was never off his case.

This IMO is another case of liking both fighters but also want them to win, I mean Hagler was great one of the all time in boxing IMO, but that night SRL was better in terms of tactics...but a great fight nonetheless

I spent a bit of time with marvin, and Hes a diamond. a much nicer guy, I found than Lenoard, but on the night Lenoard won

Ray won that fight IMO. I aint a sheep for having that opinion i like both fighters but think Ray won it and alot of people would disagree but i aint changing my opinion as im sure you wont be.
