Spinks - Good To Be Back!?
Last night Cory Spinks came back well not with so much a bang, but more of a slick style to take the IBF Junior Middleweight crown.
In my eyes, thats not a bad thing.
And wether you think it was controversial or not, to be honest nearly every major fight this season has been controversial, you have to accept, Barrera, Juarez, Collazo, Hatton, Rabbah, Urango, were all close, none robberies, its just how you see it in your own eyes and personal opinion.
Infact I think its great for boxing.
Dont get me wrong Karmazin was good, but he doesnt appeal to me so much. Spinks isnt tha massive name he once was, via the controversial "Zab Judah", but Spinks is no mug, no elite, but no mug, and that says alot for all the Zab fans out there, of how good he realy could be!
But forget about Zab, Spinks I think deserves alot of credit, he came back after a 18 month lay off, and was still able to hold off the champion, box stylishly and cleverly, and take the championship away from Roman Karmazin.
I not only think this is great for Spinks, I think its good for boxing. It opens alot of new fights. I know a few think Spinks, would give Mayweather a real good fight, I am not so sure, but seeing as Mayweather seemingly is not going after these so called "Super-Fights" and with Mayweather constantly moving up the weights, would he see Spinks as the ideal boxer, to go against to cement himself as a four-weight world champion.
Seeing as Moseley is moving down after the fight with Vargas, it wouldnt surprise me if Vargas goes looking for another World Title, and although Vargas isnt really liked, I am a big fan and would love to see him fight Spinks. But I could also see people seeing it as a fight they would rather NOT pay for.
I hope Spinks doesnt fade away though and sets himself a date for a next fight, alot could depend what happens in the next few weeks, but he needs to stay active an establish himself back into the boxing world.
Last night did alot to help that....
For me I want to see Spinks defend against Vargas, no matter what the outcome of the fight between him and Moseley.
Re: Spinks - Good To Be Back!?
I was pleased for him. He looked great for 8 rounds or so, tired drastically down the final stretch but Karmazin didn't do enough to win.
Pressuring for 4 rounds isn't enough, especially when you arn't even throwing punches in those rounds.
Cory deserved it, 115-113 was about right imo.

Good points, Bilbo, I also feel the IBF Championship will be better looked at with Spinks as a holder rather than Karmazin, wrong to say maybe, I just feel its the case...

It was the first time I've seen Karmazin and I wasn't impressed. Spinks is no world beater but he's one of those guys you can root for becasue he's so emotional and you can see he gives it everything he has.
I really don't know what he was thinking with that ring walk though! That was worse than David Brent!
