WBM Poll: Pacquiao new pound for pound #1
Tom Thompson
07/11/2006 - New Orleans
The WBM Pro Boxing Poll has voted Manny Pacquiao as the new number one pound for pound fighter in the world, replacing Floyd Mayweather Jr at the top.
Since all voting in the poll is private and individual, it can only be speculated that Pacquiao moved ahead of Mayweather because of his willingness to fight good quality opponents this year including Erik Morales, Oscar Larios and another match with Morales later this year.
Winky Wright remained ranked third in the mythical poll despite his draw with Jermain Taylor, however the middleweight champ moved from sixth to fourth.
Bernard Hopkins entered the P4P rankings at number ten based on his dominance of Antonio Tarver while Kostya Tszyu slipped out of the poll altogether due to inactivity.
The objective of the WBM Pro Boxing Poll is to recognize the achievements of deserving professional boxers by giving voice to boxing journalists around the world.
The WBM (World Boxing Media) has over forty voting members from the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Italy, Panama, Australia and New Zealand. Membership is open to any professional media person covering professional boxing whether they are from print, television, radio or the internet.

Re: WBM Poll: Pacquiao new pound for pound #1
pac is the new p4p king...
his fighting anybody thats willing to step up in the ring to him...and his dropping all of their a$ses...all his recent oppenets has been much taller and bigger then him still he drops them like flys...thats what p4p king should do...and WE NEVER HEAR PAC complaining about how much his getting paid...HE JUST FLAT OUT FIGHTS...the truest waRrior in all definition...
NO one wants to give it a thought or they just want to deny the thought...but I think pac can beat floyd p4p...
floyd got outbox by zab in the first 6 rounds...
keys to that was;
zab is a southpaw he can match floyds speed and he got power but the only thing that didin't get it done was zabs conditioning...zab hurt floyd in the body in the early rounds and he actually drop floyd but not called a knockdown but we all know lito fruads gloves touch the canvas...
now pac is a southpaw too his as fast or faster he drops oppenent with a right hook or a brutal straight outta no where left...and most of all pacs well conditioned if had to he prolly could go 15 rounds...but i doubt floyd not getting hurt by pac by 6th...
floyd look great against oppenent that were too slow or hesitant to punch back...but we all know theirs no stopping pac from punching you the f**k out...his no gatti his not gonna be slow like gatti...his not corrales whos going to just follow floyd and wait to catch him once...pac is going to come at floyd fast and powerfull...
fraud maywhether only defence on beating pac now is that his too big for pac...its actually a no win for floyd...becaues if he goes down he'll be drain and that will be terrible going in against pac...and it can only happen at the lower weight class that he should of stayed in...
as for winky he'll beat floyd too...
a southpaw with great defence and just sheer strength and size will not make lito fraud look good...
both winky and pac wouldn't make fruad look good...not like the fighters lito fruad has fought...
bring on the debates I'll go on 4ever debating lito fruad not p4p #1
Re: WBM Poll: Pacquiao new pound for pound #1

yea i have pac and winky above floyd...lito fraud is talented but come on he needs to prove it constantly like the rest of the top p4p are doing...
pac has fought all of the greats in his division already( mab em jmm) in about 2 years and all three got drop about 7 or 8 times...and pac came from 106 and is now a 130 pounder...all the talks of him not being a real 130 pounder is gone after dropping valuzquez em and then larios...those three combine for 5 knockdowns...damn pac dropps cats much taller and physically bigger then him...
winky he'll flat out give you a smash mouth beat down too...staying in front and punishing you while you attempt to break his unbreakable defence...he too fights anyone and constantly...he gave mosley two boxing a$s whooping...gave tito a boxing lesson...took j.t to 12 round legit draw...now his talking about a fight with joe.C
as for lito fraud...uhh last 3 years uhh...ooh nothing just fights with likes of hype fighters like GATTI...

I agree with you bro, Floyd probably shouldn't be the #1 P4P fighter in the world today. But I don't think that Manny could beat Floyd right now. First off, as you said, Floyd is much bigger than Manny. He a welterweight. Do you honestly think that Manny's power will carry over to the likes of the welterweight division? That in mind, it's going to be an intellectual fight. And the way Manny boxes, albeit straightforward and powerful, isn't exactly polished. Remember the mayweather fight against N'dou? Where Floyd effectively defended against N'Dou using his shoulders and cat quick reactions? I think the same things going to happen if Floyd and Manny face off. It'll probably go 12 rounds, with a UD for Flyod.
I'm a Filipino myself and I love Manny. But the one thing I have against almost all Filipino boxers is that they always go for the knockout punch. Filipino fighters have very poor boxing skills to begin with. Though they have tremendous heart and determination, they are fundamentally mediocre. Even in Manny's case, with great power, speed and heart, he just recently fine tuned his boxing skills.
That's why I think Floyd would beat Manny. Negate Manny's phenomenal power at 130, leave it to the ring generalship, and Flyod gets this won.
But once again, I don't think Floyd is the #1 P4P fighter in the world right now.
