Promoter Lou DiBella is keen on pitting Jermain Taylor against Sergio Mora. However DiBella will also be watching Shane Mosley vs. Fernado Vargas this weekend. DiBella tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, that if Mora loses his upcoming tune-up fight against Eric Regan on August 25th, and if Vargas wins against Mosley this weekend, then DiBella would be interested in Taylor vs Vargas.
Dibella quoted by the Arkansa Democrat-Gazatte, said: “It’s boxing, anything can happen. I’m banking on the fact that Mora’s good enough to win this [Aug. 25 ] fight. But if not, then we’ll take a look at Vargas, who may beat Mosley. If
Vargas wins [and Mora loses ], that’s a real possibility for our next fight.
DiBella added: “ At the very least, [Taylor ] will fight in December. If Mora and Vargas are unavailable, and there aren’t any big-name fights that present themselves, then he will fight in Arkansas in December.”

Bleh. I really don't think Vargas is title material anymore. And I know a lot of people call me crazy for it after the fight with Mosley, but I seriously don't think he's in the elite level anymore. He's so easy to hit and he throws 1 punch at a time. Easy fight for Taylor.

Good points,I don't think Fernando looked that good either but then again,Shane didn't look that impressive and I think there are better fighters at 154 than the both of them.

I agree though matchups make fights Taylor fought WInky to a close fight whatever way you see it, and WInky beat Vargas scorecards aside by a safer margin than he won against Taylor IMO... the only difference is that Winky has only gotten better since fighting Vargas, and Vargas has only gotten worse over the past few years. I say that Taylor probably jabs harder than Mosley's right hand, and Vargas would be in seriously trouble fighting him.

Heart isn't an issue. Fernando couldn't hurt Ray Joval at 160. He's not going to hurt Taylor. Taylor is a big, big middle, tall enough to keep Vargas on the end of his (quicker) jab, line him up for harder right hands than Mosely repeatedly connected with and strong enough to push him around in close.
Vargas should leave this one alone

...Vargas can't make 154 much longer, he has to do 160, if his power doesn't work there it sure as hell won't work at 168!
Vargas should do the Taylor fight and get some money, have 2-3 more fights vs some up and comers (Duddy, Abraham, Sturm, Miranda) and retire.
