The WBA wants to see progress in regard to welterweight champion Ricky Hatton's mandatory defense against Oktay Urkal. A letter to the Hatton camp from WBA executive Gilberto Jesus Mendoza on Tuesday informs the Hatton camp that Friday is the deadline to receive documents for the bout, otherwise a purse bid will be called in ten days. Below is the text of the letter:
Dear Mr. Hatton:
Please consider this communication as a reminding notice of the terms by which the WBA Championship Committee approved WBA Welterweight Championship between Luis Collazo versus Oktay Urkal on May 13, 2006 in Boston, MA. The resolution sent to all parties involved indicated several requirements in order to approve the bout. On paragraph 3, section a, establish a time period of one hundred and twenty (120) days from the date of the bout (May 13th, 2006) to the winner (Richard Hatton) to face mandatory challenger Oktay Urkal. Until this moment the WBA Championship Committee has not receive any communication from you about this obligation. We decided to set July 14th, 2006 as due date in order to receive all documents necessary to approve the HATTON VS. URKAL title bout. Otherwise, we [will call] a purse bid 10 days counted from the mentioned date.

if hatton plans on fighting only 2 or 3 more fights, then he should absolutely NOT take this fight.
there are a lot of oppurtunities that are much more lucrative than this one, for ricky
Re: Hatton-Urkal:Deadline approaching
I highly doubt the truth of him fighting only 2 more times but I do believe he will fight a max of 6 more times. Here are possible opponents:
140pounds
Corrales
Castillo
147
Gatti(although he's pencilled in for a DEC fight with Cotto)
Baldomir(again,possibly fighting PBF)
Cotto(not this year though)
PBF(doesn't seem as exciting a prospect as before but if it was@140,would be much more exciting)
Margarito(mentioned him once but after the Collazo fight, never mentioned him again)
Collazo(should give him a rematch, answer the questions asked)
Hatton does not have many options left for this year at all!! He could fight 1 of the dangerous prospects but he could get beaten ie Williams,Quintana,Clottey etc etc.
Re: Hatton-Urkal:Deadline approaching
Why is Hatton fighting Urkal instead of a Collazo rematch?
