Is 16 too young to want to really get into boxing??
I am willing to find a gym and a trainer and work my hardest to get into the best shape i can be. I do 150-200 situps everday and i have started hitting my new 100 pound everlast heavy bag which i purchased a week or two ago. I have been hitting the bag as a workout to get in shape, but i really would like to take it to the next level. I was wondering if 16 years old is too young to want to get into boxing as a competitive sport and not just a workout?
Re: Is 16 too young to want to really get into boxing??
No way, man. Get into it!!! That's far from too young. Some kids have been into it far longer, but now would be a perfect time. We just held a boxing event here in our town for younger ages. There were kids as young as 10-12 coming from all over the nation. If you want to box, go for it and don't give up. ;D Good luck
Re: Is 16 too young to want to really get into boxing??
well i have been lifting weights 3 days a week (nothing hardcore just bench pressing like half my body weight about 10-20 reps).....so should i stop that if im looking to start boxing?
Re: Is 16 too young to want to really get into boxing??
At 16 I don't think you should have to worry about weights too much in general. As long as you're not too hardcore I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. The push ups and sit ups are definitely good. As far as how it effects boxing I can't answer you truthfully. Hopefully someone more qualified will post. Your trainer at the Gym would definitely know more than I. I wrestled most of my life so training was vastly different. I should have boxed too. Oh well :-\

If anyone asked me the best age to start Boxing taking everything in to account it would be 16.
Re: Is 16 too young to want to really get into boxing??
Im just afraid im gonna suck. Another problem is my parents, ever since they saw "Million Dollar Baby," they cringe everytime i say that i wanna become a boxer.
Re: Is 16 too young to want to really get into boxing??
I was just about to say Scrap, 16 is a very good age ;) you're starting to physically develop a bit and you will learn things a lot faster than say when you where 10-14.
Re: Is 16 too young to want to really get into boxing??
Ok, now i just have to find a way to convince my parents to let me start getting serious with boxing and take me to a gym.
Re: Is 16 too young to want to really get into boxing??
16 is a wicked age to start boxing. you can make a decision wheather you really wanna do this for a career or just as a way to get a fight. PLus you will have a better understanding of the craft than say if you was below 14.
