David Tua against Tank Abbott in the octagon who wins?
Tua would knock tank cold.
IMO, any pro boxer would win a stand-up contest against an MMAer of the same weightclass. Unless it's crocop..then the boxer has his left let to deal with. but take his left leg and the boxer wins.
Saturday night at a local gents club for my buddy's bach party I was teaching the ladies how to box. they ate that shit up!! I think I even could have married a couple of them! ;D
have to try teaching boxing next time to some ladies  even if i fake most of it :P. I want to see two skills boxers go at it with no gloves or lightly padded ones.
well as usual I disagree with Von on a boxer always winning the standup against an mma fighter, but Tank is basically a glorified toughman fighter and would be handily beaten up by Tua in a boxing ring or an octagon. The guy really has never beat anyone worth mentioning and shied away from some big fights with the likes of Ken Shamrock and others. He is a lot of fun to watch, but other than sheer punching power he brings little else to the table.
exlain to me how a guy with limited boxing training could take a pro boxer. ridiculous. boxers are the best stand-up fighters in the world. wanna learn how to strike, you box. throws, judo. etc.
matt hughes against any pro boxer at the same weight and matt gets hurt unless he can get it to the ground.
see, I think you fail to see my main point.... STAND-UP.
Von your punches mean absolutely dick once I gain the clinch and start dropping knees and elbows on you. Boxing is a good place to start for striking but its not the end all be all. Muy Thai leg strikes can leave people crippled for life. I like boxing..both watching and training in it, but as I've said many times before boxing and mma striking are similar but have some very distinct differences.
Tank Abbott has no ground game. How do I know this?
1) Watch any of his fights
2) He trained with my best friend back in the day.
Any mixed martial arts fighter would mostly rock Tua in a NHB fight (obviously NOT a boxing match). Abbott, on the other hand, is tailor made for Tua. If he fights a NHB fighter with little to no ground game then it's all standup and David would rape them. Get any NHB fighter and make them stand up with David Tua or any remotely notable boxer and 9 times out of 10 they'll get straight up owned. It's the other aspects of fighting where the boxer falls short. It's definitely not trading shots. Just watch are Arlovski (who is known to knock fools out) boxing during training... most of these guys can't hold a candle to a successful professional boxer. Plus, David Tua without gloves?????? I shudder to think.
Thats an easy one MMA striking or "Stand Up" utilizes legs, elbows, knees, fists, etc.... instead of one dimensional Boxing(punching only) perfect example of this is when "Iron Chin" Ray Mercer went in there with Remy Bonjasky, Bonjasky kept Mercer at a distance and Landed a Thai Kick to the side of the head ending the fight in about 15 sec... Soon as Mercer tasted that he decided he wanted no part....Quote:

Tua would kill him literally
Lets not use Abbott who really is just glorified toughman fighter. How about Tua vs Hunt. Hunt really has little to no ground game, but is a deadly striker. This fight would be fought all most exclusively standing. I guess my point is why would a mma fighter attempt to "box" with a pro prizefighter? He wouldn't. Hunt wouldn't try to out jab or counter Tua he'd use leg kicks to slow him down and tie him up in the clinch so he could use elbows and knees. Even a great inside slugger like Tua who has no training in fighting from a thai clinch would be out of his element. I'd give Tua a punchers chance against Hunt, but in the end I'd take Hunt.
tank would suffer a brain aneurysm and die in the Octagon.....I honestly think he would try to stand up and trade....BIG mistake...Quote:

don't leave out guys like Tyson that know how to throw elbows with great efficency...plus I don't know many experienced boxers that don't know how to strike in close quarters....I know I practice throwing pure elbows instead of hooks at times.....or intentionally punching at the throat...things of that nature.....and as far as striking on the ground forget it...a boxer would live for it....to drive an elbow upside someones temple!!!!! too sweet!!!! and with MMA gloves on...wow that would be some devastating stuff....Quote:

All I know is that in my limited mma experience when I've fought someone who is known to have a good boxing background I simply don't box with them. From my experience boxers really don't like leg kicks and they are somewhat uncomfortable fighting from a clinch. Obvsiouly things like handspeed/reflexes/chin/power still come into play but these are more issue of athleticism and heart.Quote:
