Guide Your Own Career.....
I thought it would fun to ponder how you would guide your career as a boxer with the following choices and if I left any factors out please fill in the blanks..
1)Who would you choose as a trainer?
2)Who would you choose as a promoter?
3)Who would you choose as a manager?
4)What network would you want to fight on?
5)Would you move to a certain city as your headquarters??
Lets here what you crazt bastages have to say....Like I said fill in the blanks if I left anything out..
Re: Guide Your Own Career.....
Assuming we get the choice of anyone at the start of our career (because we're just amazing ;D)
1. Manny Steward (all time it would be Cus D'amato but Im assuming were going with people still around)
2. ODLH - hes gonna have a lot of power for a lot of time, and if he can get me decisions like Forrest's, Im with him!!!
3. Billy Graham - Talks straight, has the fighters best interests at heart
4. Showtime - Consistently better nowadays, HBO is slipping
5. Miami - Cos why the fuck not eh? ;D

1. I'm thinking Kevin Rooney/Teddy Atlas/Freddie Roach the Cus D'Amato proteges. as close to the great one as you can get.
2. ODLH I think he has the interest of fighters and fans in mind for the most part.
3. Thinking Teddy Atlas
4. Showtime. or as far away from King as possible.
5. Columbus, OH plenty of excellent gyms
6. Use money to build Recreation/Learning Centers for the underprivileged
Re: Guide Your Own Career.....
trainer would be Freddie Roach, learned from the great Eddie Futch
promoter would be golden boy promotions
self managed or maybe Shelly Finkel
HBO, they do a good job with their fighters, look at Jermain Taylor
las vegas
Re: Guide Your Own Career.....
Well considering I'd be about as good a boxer as I would a ballroom dancer I would to quote Vivian Harris need a great 'TEAM!' around me.
First up, trainer would have to be Mick from Rocky. If he can train an over the hill journeyman amatuer with more losses than Baldomir and Johnson combined to a title victory over the unbeaten Appollo Creed then maybe he might be able to guide me to an IBO title or something.
Second, I would need to be fed soley on a diet of tomato cans, so Frank Warren would have to promote me without a doubt.
I would have to choose Audrey Harrison to be my manager as he self-managed to become a millionaire despite being completely and totally F****** useless in the ring.
I would probably have to go with ITV Southwest to promote my fights cos I don't think HBO or Showtime would want to know, although with my 'team' around me I might make an extended highlights slot on Westcountry News.
As far as where I would be based, somewhere near a hospital I guess. :P
