Unbeaten middleweight prospect John Duddy will continue on his road to the middleweight championship when he takes on former junior middleweight title-holder Luis Ramon "Yory Boy" Campas on September 29 at the Theater in Madison Square Garden, it was announced on Wednesday.
It will mark Duddy's third consecutive appearance fighting as a professional at the Garden, and it will be against his most experienced and toughest foe to date. In fact, Campas 88-8, 72 KO's has 69 more fights than the undefeated Duddy, 17-0, 15 KO's. But while Campas may have the edge in experience, Duddy has the youth factor - clocking in at 8 years younger than his 35 year-old opponent.
"I'm sure Yory Boy can teach me a few things, (but) I wouldn't be fighting if I wasn't ready," Duddy told Fightnews at a press conference to announce the fight card at Jack Demsey's in Manhattan.
"I was watching Yory fight when I was younger," Duddy recalled though he readily will admit his biggest advantage. "Being young; no disrespect to Yory - he always comes to fight."
"I'm going to be very, very prepared for this. I'm going to take this fight very seriously. I'm going to come out victorious at the end," Campas said.
"I'm very, very happy to be fighting in New York on September 29. It's my first time fighting in New York and I'm very excited to be here," said Campas.
"It's a home away from home. I've got great support from New Yorkers," Duddy said. "I'll give them a lot to cheer about."
And if for some unseen reason he doesn't; the under card is loaded with many other popular local boxers.
James Moore, another unbeaten Irish middleweight prospect, will see action against an opponent to be determined. "September 29 is going to be a cracking night," he said.
Unbeaten female junior lightweight Maureen Shea will make her second appearance at the Garden and the second below a Duddy main event when she also boxes an opponent not yet determined.
Boxing fans will also have the chance to see the rising 19-year old 147-pound phenom, Julio Cesar Garcia (38-2, 31 KO's) take on Gilberto Reyes (18-4-1, 11 KO's). Garcia is coming off an impressive blowout over one Alfonso Sanchez last week on the Evander Holyfield - Jeremy Bates under card. Expect Garcia to continue his success here as Reyes is coming off of two lopsided losses.
Tickets have already gone on sale for the expected sell-out show and can be purchased at the Theater at MSG for prices ranging from $300 to $50.
Yup. He can teach you how to lose.

Aww cmon wacko, stop being such a nelly. How can anyone want a genial Irishman to lose? As you can tell, my main arguyment for him winning is that he is so likeable, even Yory Boy won't wnat to hit him in the face.
But he's Irish........ :p

I saw this monday night but wasn't sure about it. Even now I don't think it will go thru. If it does Yory Boy will teach Duddy a thing or two. This would be a HUGE step up in class regardless of where you might think Yory Boys level is at. He still has experience over Duddy.
