Just Starting Out...
I would like to start boxing, but have some questions. Let me first give you a little background. I am 21, 6'2" about 160-165 lbs. I workout a ton. I do a mix of intervals and long runs 5-6 days a week. I hit the heavy bag 3 days, do pullups, crunchs and push ups. I don't lift weights right now, but I am going to start next week. I would say I am very fit, but want to go the extra mile. I am definitely not skinny, but would say I am more "cut" than anything, I have muscle.
Where do I start? There are a few boxing gyms in my area, but I am not sure what is best for me. I do not have any experience, so do I get a trainer? If so, how much do they typically cost? I doubt I'll make a career out of this, but would like some fights. Thanks.

Re: Just Starting Out...
Go to all the gyms 1nce and see which one you like the best, it can be personal prferance to begin with, Just train hard, and enjoy, thats the main thing.
good luck.

Re: Just Starting Out...
as gally said, go around to the gyms. ask questions. you'll get a feel for what one suits you best. are the guys welcoming? is it dirty/dingy or look ok? I like clenliness, myself. Then just take it from there. a decent gysm should have all you need to get started, including free mit work with a trainer. Our gym never charges. You just ask if you can get a few rounds of mit work when you go. Most guys are happy to do it.

Re: Just Starting Out...
btw, no need for heavy weight training. it'll work against your speed. and in boxing, speed kills. just do plyometrics and bodyweight/medicine ball training.
