Hatton talks of Shanghai 'mugging'
Ricky Hatton has spoken about getting a £4,000 watch taken off him by four Shanghai thugs. The Hitman, who returns to action on December 9, had traveled to the Far East to watch his beloved Manchester City Football Club's pre-season tour of China when four yobbos confronted him in a sidestreet and demanded he hand over his Rolex.
Hatton told SecondsOut: "It was my first night there and I didn't have my bearings as to where the hotel was or anything like that. I lost the people I was with and I was wandering around the streets trying to get back to the hotel.
"Then all of a sudden there were four guys around me and one of them said: 'Give us your watch.' My first reaction was to say 'No - F*** off!' But then my brain kicked in and I realized they could have had knives, nukchuckas or anything. I was sure I'd seen at least one of them in a Jackie Chan film so I thought better of having a go at four of 'em at once just for the sake of a watch."
Hatton said his encounter with the Shanghai-way Men didn't ruin his trip, though.
He added: "Thinking back, I think they were in the bar I'd been in and would have seen me with the watch. I usually don't go out wearing anything expensive but this time I forgot. They were probably waiting for me to be alone.
"I was pretty pissed off, but I did the sensible thing and just gave them the watch. I can always get another watch but I didn't fancy getting stabbed or shot, especially in a foreign country.
"I wasn't beaten up or mugged or anything like that. It could have been a lot worse."

well in a foreign country it is more likely the police wont care about you as much and also health services will be harder to communicate with , so his comment makes sense to me.

well coz if he would have gotten shot or stabbed he wouldn't know where to go for help or who to call, a wise and logical analysis IMO.

Nah I'm with you Fenster, he's just trying to put a brave spin onto what he actually did and that was simply to S*** himself ;D
Like anyone in that situation threatened by a couple (he said 4, he exaggerated :P) of guys he browned his little pants and handed over his goods, and then immediately afterwards, once the muggers had gone, he rationalised his cowardice like everybody does by saying, 'Well they might have had weapons', 'I didn't want to hurt them', blah blah blah.
Ricky is scared to fight Louis Collazo again for millions of dollars, he sure as hell wouldn't want to face two muggers for squat! ;D
