What if weighins were done on fight night?
I have been thinking lately what would happen to division and what significant fighters would have to move up 2 if not 3 weight classes. what fighter would have to move up and to what weight class.
for instance Jose Luis Castillo would probably be a welterweight, Cotto a Jr middle weight, baldomier a supermiddle weight maybe a middle weight, Diego might be a welterweight as well.
what are your thoughts?
Re: What if weighins were done on fight night?
I think this would be seriously dangerous, because a lot of fighters, rather than moving up 2 or 3 weight classes, would come in totally dried out and now without any time to rehydrate. I think we'd see a lot more serious injuries.

I never thought of it that way, I thought they wold just move up to their more natural weight.

I think you would get some that would move up closer to their natural (within 2 weight classes). Then there would be others that would stay put.

they weigh what they weigh......they get to train as hard as the others but there is no real deprivation involved....the body gets the opportunity to train at optimum levels the whole time....

True...I think for the light weights it's lose lose...you're either going to have someone die trying to make the weight or someone die because the other guy dropped 20-30 pounds then gained it back...it sucks

exactly...there hasn't been a true lightweight , or welter, in years......it's 2 welter's fighting or 2 middleweights fighting.....
Re: What if weighins were done on fight night?
And though this practice has helped guys like Arturo Gatti it hurt guys like oooohhh JOEY GAMACHE who nearly died because of Gatti

right.....because you had one guy who was bigger fighting at a much lower weight and another guy that was closer to the actual weight.....never going to be a good outcome.....
Re: What if weighins were done on fight night?
What sucks is that there is no way of policeing any of this right now. I would love for the fighters to fight closer to their natural weights. Then we could really see who has the skill and power to be an elite fighter. Right now it is almost whatever a large fighter can get down to then he has a better chance of becoming an elite fighter at that weight than somebody that is there natuarlly.

Then it would be dangerous and people would die.
