We do push ups, clean and simple like i described earlier. All those other possibilities.... way over my head ??? I'll just keep it simple ;) :P

Push ups will only take you so far im afraid
bench press is the best thing for buiding up a strong chest period. Pushups are great for arm/shoulder strength & endurance and does work your chest a little, but you should aim your attention at bench press if you want great results, which is obvious if you are asking about ways to get results. Just focus on making small gains each time you lift. an extra rep or 2 each time, and extra little bit of weight here and there. Stick to that on a constant basis for a long period & you'll definetly get the results you want.
oh yeah, www.hardgainer.com has great advise on weight training if you are going to head down that track.
