JOHNNY NELSON IGNORES DOCTORS FOR MACCA
Johnny Nelson will defy medical advice when he defends his WBO cruiserweight title against Enzo Maccarinelli in Manchester on 14 October.
Nelson was told he would never box again after suffering a knee injury while preparing for his first scheduled meeting with the Welshman in March.
"The surgeon told me I would not box again and when he said that to me it made my blood boil," said Nelson.
"I want to prove people wrong and nobody is going to dip my confidence."
Nelson will meet Maccarinelli on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's bout with Cameroon's Sakio Bika at the MEN Arena and he hopes to put his experience to good use.
"I watched Enzo's last fight on television at home, sitting in my underpants with my crutches by my side. They were talking about me retiring and I thought, this isn't happening," he said.
"I went back to basics and realised I had forgotten to do a lot of things. I have more mobility and footwork, and my workrate is a lot higher.
"I have got two years left in boxing and I intend to retire at this level as a fighter."

sounds stupid.... is it true?
if so nelson will just use it for an excuse to why he lost to enzo mac when he gets beat whether its true or not!
i dont think hes much on enzo these days and its about time mac got big fights and titles
Re: JOHNNY NELSON IGNORES DOCTORS FOR MACCA
Hell I am surprised Nelson is still fighting. He has been doing this once a year deal for the last three or four. I wonder if he is just out for one more payday and is building an excuse for retirement?
Re: JOHNNY NELSON IGNORES DOCTORS FOR MACCA
If his knee holds up I fancy him to outpoint Enzo.
Enzo is so overratted. He's the UK's answer to Joey Spina.
