In a press conference held in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, the WBO recognized undefeated strawweight champion Ivan 'Iron Boy Calderón as a super champion, a distinction which is awarded after 10 succesful title defenses. Calderón will make his next title defense in Panama City, Panama on October 14 when he faces Jose Luis Varela in a 12 round bout.
